When prepping my 1099s in QB online, the "Payer's TIN" block is showing the format as xx-xxxxxx when it should be xxx-xx-xxxx because I'm a Sole Proprietor.

The 1099's I prep in QB Online do not match what I'm putting in.  Specifically, the "Payer's TIN" block is showing the format as xx-xxxxxx when it should be ***-xx-xxxx because we used a SSN because we are a Sole Proprietor.

No matter what I do on the front end in Company Section under Account and Settings, the actual form that is prepped shows the format as xx-xxxxxx.

Also, since I am a Sole Proprietor, should the Payer's Name block show my actual name or the business' name?

It's good to have you here. Let us provide insights about the payer's TIN format inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).

We understand your confusion regarding the format of the Payer's TIN since you are a sole proprietor. It's worth noting that QuickBooks Online follows the EIN format by default, and even if you edit it in Account and Settings, QBO will still use the EIN format. To change the format to SSN, we recommend contacting our support team for further guidance. Here's how:

  1. In your QuickBooks, go to Help.
  2. Click Contact Us and enter a brief explanation about your concern.
  3. Select Let's Talk and decide a way to connect with us.

When filling out the "Payer's name" section in QBO, it is essential to note that the system will consider the legal business name as the basis for this field. The name entered should match the official name registered with the appropriate authorities.

Moreover, I suggest scanning this article as your reference in making corrections for 1099 in the future: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

My call was disconnected and I still need help, I was on the phone with support for 1-1/2 hours to attempt to correct the Payer's TIN block which is not presenting the social security number in the correct format, i.e. xxx-xx-xxx, instead the form shows xx-xxxxxxx.  I am a sole proprietor and I need to use my SSN not an EIN.  My 1099's have been rejected by the IRS due to I believe this problem.  Is this fixable, and if so how, and if not what is the filing solution.
