Just got blackmailed into annual subscription to stay on desktop version. Results? Desktop Pro 2022 takes forever to load. I mean to the point I thought my computer froze. I share concerns of other like MUST have password (single user) but waiting 30 seconds--when it used to be about 2 with my 2019 version--is progress?
Joshua,
I appreciate info and suggestion to run QB diagnostic tool. It did not work. The boot up still takes 30 seconds to a minute, whereas my prior version came up in just a few seconds. Once up, it's running fine.
Hi, same problem here for the past 2 or so weeks, except that I have multiple company files.
To answer your questions:
1. It takes approximately 10 minutes to log in to a company file. Once in, the program operates as usual.
2. No error messages, just waiting... thought the program had frozen at first, but no.
3. Same usual slowness opening the program. SUPER slow to open client.
Thanks!
How big is your file size?
Try opening the sample file. Did you encounter the same problem?
I'll share some guidance to resolve slowness on the QuickBooks program, LauraB77.
QuickBooks may run slowly due to the size of your company's data files. As the company file grows in size, the software's performance decreases.
Before we proceed, have you tried downloading the QuickBooks Install DiagnosticTool? If yes, I suggest condensing your data for additional steps to take. This helps decrease your company file data and enhance the software.
Here's how:
1. Go to the File menu.
2. Select Utilities and choose Condense Data.
3. Click the first radio button as shown below. Take note that the system will advise you of the approximate reduction in your file.
4. Hit Next.
For your reference, check out this article for more details: Use the Condense Data utility.
You can also try opening a sample file as Fiat mentioned above. This can help us determine if the slow performance are cause by your company file or the QuickBooks software.
If the issue persists, you can perform the additional troubleshooting procedure outlined in the following resources below:

They are tiny files just for payroll
Yep. I reported this back in May--immediately after buying new Desktop version my boot up time went from 3-4 seconds to 45 seconds! Just timed it again. My file size is 39 meg. Thirty nine meg. The who diagnostic tool thing did not work.

I had more than 7 versions of QBD installed on my machine (Win 10 Home 21H2 build 19044 on 8GB RAM protected by a cloud based endpoint security solution) as of last June. Every time I open one version, it took more than 10 minutes to be ready to open the file. One day I couldn't open any of them and got the same error message regarding license issues. I suspect it's related to QB server to force QBD update including outdated version to be integrated with Intuit ID. I had to reinstall QBD 2021 and 2018 in new folders, and miraculously I can open any of them in less than 10 seconds ever since. I would suggest reinstalling your QBD and creating a new folder. If the same problem persists, try to disable your endpoint security to see any difference.
@Fiat Lux, thank you for the tip. I don't run online but your idea could still be valid as updates come. To QuickBooks credit they did try to call twice yesterday and sent a problem specific email encouraging me to reach out. I'm in the middle of a time crunch at the moment but will try this and getting back to QB when the smoke of my priorities clear.
Quickbooks Desktop for Mac is now ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I have used it forever. I am officially about to find another software. You can't get a human. Every time I open my company file it tells me I need to upgrade and creates a new one. I have never never been in such a mess. And the lack of support from a human is beyond absurd for a company your size. I am so over it!
Thanks for joining in this conversation, @tmorrow. I see where you're coming from.
I appreciate you for trying all the steps shared in this thread. Since you've already updated your QuickBooks, I'd suggest you move the Quickbooks file back to it's previous location when restoring it. That will resolve the issue you're facing right now.
If the issue persists, you have our Customer Care team to take a closer look at the problem and help you fix it. They can also submit a request to investigate it whenever necessary.
Let me know if you have additional concerns about managing your company file. We're always around here to help in any way we can.

If the diagnostics aren't working. It's worth checking where your ".qbw" company file is located and stored.
If you're accessing it on a shared drive over the network, that could be the problem. The file server could have an issue making it run super slow.
You or your tech admin can test this by copying the file onto your computer directly and opening it to see if it still gives you an extremely slow experience.
Hi Dylan22!
Thank you for helping out a fellow Community member! I agree with checking the storage location of the company file and transferring the file to the local drive to achieve better performance.
Feel free to keep on sharing your expertise about QuickBooks. Enjoy the rest of the day!
Removing the multi-users worked! Thank you.
