I appreciate you for reaching out, @Crj4zkpt! Let me share with you some insights about the PCI (Payment Card Industry) support processes.
Indeed, the PCI (Payment Card Industry) Security Metrics fee requirement for Intuit QuickBooks is legitimate. This fee ensures compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements, which is essential for safeguarding sensitive payment card information. The PCI compliance fee covers the cost of providing tools, resources, and support to help merchants meet these security standards.

@Crj4zkpt PCI compliance is legit. However, you are NOT required to use Security Metrics. That is just the company that QB has a contract with. You can use ANY company of your choosing.
We found that there are a LOT of companies that are cheaper, better, and friendlier that the one that QB has contracted.
We use STAX for our Credit card processing. We go through them to do our PCI compliance.
Never had a single problem with the processing, nor the compliance. They helped set it all up and will always answer any questions along the way.
Hi. I received a notification from Security Metrics regarding PCI compliance. We use QBO merchant services for our payment processing and from my understanding merchant services are PCI compliant. Do I still need to pay a third party vendor to be compliant if the merchant center already is. A lot of what I've read is that this is a push for a service that isn't required and I don't want to pay for something that is unnecessary.
While QuickBooks Merchant Services ensures compliance with payment processing, it does not serve as a standalone compliance tool that addresses broader PCI compliance requirements for your entire system, @sslipp.
As a merchant, you retain your compliance obligations. The push for third-party compliance services depends from the complexity of the PCI compliance process.
However, if you’re comfortable managing your compliance independently and correctly completing the Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ), hiring a third-party vendor isn’t required.
If you want to learn more about PCI and how to securely process sensitive payment card data, you can read through this article: Learn about the PCI DSS Compliance Services.
Moreover, Intuit has partnered with Security Metrics to streamline the PCI compliance validation process. Security Metrics charges an annual fee to merchants who are validating compliance for Intuit.
Please know that you're always welcome to reach out for further questions about PCI compliance in QuickBooks. I'd be glad to get back to you. Stay safe!
