Does anybody knows if there is a way to set up the MD withholding payments with QuickBooks desktop and MD new site MD tax connect?
Maryland hasn't been helpful and they don't answer the phones, the ones i have the client had to go in the new site and make the payment there, before it was so easy to just make the payment from the payroll liabilities in QuickBooks desktop.
Thank you!

I appreciate you for joining this thread concerning e-filing through QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @HCDB.
It's correct that Maryland withholding is moving to a new system, and customers are temporarily unable to utilize the e-file services to pay their 2024 withholding taxes. We are in communication with your state about implementing their new system through the application to enable our clients to file their taxes through our system.
For now, we're unable to provide a turnaround or when this will be available to our system. In the meantime, I'd recommend you submit your withholding taxes directly to your state offices or their new website.
Feel free to post back to this thread if you have additional questions about tax filing. I always have your back. Take care!
YES, PLEASE!
I am at the same situation with several of our clients.
Comptroller of Maryland office is just hanging up and asking to call them another time...
I know why you’re unable to pay your Maryland withholding taxes through their site and in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @Julissa5.
Right now, Maryland withholding is moving to a new system, and QBDT customers can’t e-file or e-pay 2024 withholding taxes. While the agency prepares the new system, customers will not be penalized for paying or filing 2024 withholding late for any payments due before they open up their new system.
Once resolved, you can watch this video tutorial to start paying payroll taxes and liabilities within the application: How to pay payroll taxes and liabilities in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

I tried to submit the taxes via QB and succeeded yesterday. However today I got the email that MD rejected my payments.
After that there was a follow up from QB saying
"QuickBooks rejected your Maryland Withholding Payment as the Department of Revenue is not yet ready to accept payments in their new withholding system. Please come back and resubmit your payment in early to mid-March. There will not be any penalties for late payments due to this delay.
We will communicate with your business once the agency is ready to accept payments."
I guess we have to be patient.
State of Maryland is still rejecting my payments as of March 15th. I've signed up for the Maryland tax connect, so we're registered there. Now what?
My tax payments (weekly) continue to be rejected and supposedly they started accepting payment already. And I can find no answers on how to resolve this
The State of Maryland Comptrollers office has sent out a letter that they are accepting payments but Quickbooks keeps giving me the message that they are not.
In quickbooks the payments are sent to the MD Revenue Administration- which is no longer accepting payments for withholding. Can someone at Quickbooks please look into this. Why is MD telling me they are accepting payments (I have a letter from them) and Quickbooks is saying they are not
I understand how important it is to pay withholding payments seamlessly, heizac.
As my colleague mentioned, Maryland withholding tax is moving to a new system, and QuickBooks Desktop customers won't be able to e-file or e-pay 2024 withholding taxes. While the agency prepares the new system, customers will not be penalized for paying or filing 2024 withholding late for any payments due before they open up their new system.
Please know that we've been in touch with your state to implement their new tax filing system through our application. However, we do not have a specific timeframe for when this functionality will be available on our system.
For now, we recommend you submit your withholding taxes directly to their new website or via the state's offices since you've received a letter indicating they're accepting payments.
For future reference, if you want to have an overview of your payroll totals, including employee taxes or contributions and balances, you can run these reports:

Is it my understanding that I will no longer be able to efile MD withholding on Quickbooks and that I must now use the new MD Tax Connect website to pay withholding? Quickbooks support, please confirm!

It is impossible to pay Maryland Withholding and I am very concerned...
Today's message is
"
Welcome to Maryland Tax Connect! Maryland Tax Connect is currently down for maintenance. Please check back later. We apologize for the inconvenience. For additional information please go to www.marylandtaxes.gov/MDTaxConnect.
For assistance, please email us at [email address removed] or contact Taxpayer Services Monday-Friday, "8:30AM-4:30PM at [removed]"
However, when I was trying to call many many times I was getting the same message that they are not able to answer a call at this time due to a higher than normal amount of calls. No matter what time I have tried.
It is a "Catch 22"....
Sounds like we are all in the same boat playing the waiting game. I've tried to pay on MD Tax Connect and January 2024 is not an option only months in 2023. Extremely frustrating!
If I pay our withholding directly through the MD tax connect site, how do I get rid of all my weekly liabilities that were scheduled since the beginning of the year and are now showing as past due in QB because they were rejected? How do I make sure my quarterly and year end reports will reflect that it was paid?
I recognize you've paid your withholding taxes through the MD tax connect site, heizac. Let me help you fix the weekly scheduled liabilities in QuickBooks Desktop.
There are two ways to settle the scheduled liabilities shown as overdue or appear in red. You can pay them by entering Scheduled Liabilities or input the payment using the Enter Prior Payments option in the YTD Adjustment window. Please follow further instructions below.
Here's how to pay an unscheduled liability or create a custom payment. This helps you stay on top of your bills and payments.
Either way, create a Prior Payment by heading to the Help menu.
4. In the Enter Prior Payments window, select Create Payment to enter all prior payroll tax and non-tax payroll liability payments you have made during the current or previous years.
5. Under Item Name, select the ▼ dropdown and select the item you need to create a prior payment for.
5. Verify the dates update as necessary and choose the Next Payment to enter another prior payment.
6. Select Done, then Finish.

Currently, the only way that you can submit is via having your client Grant you full access.Howver ,
hope this give some guideline to this disastrous system. this is what you get when you bring a comptroller in place which has no background experience on software and accounting.
Maryland's data base is on two different Locations ( Annapolis and Preston Street) and these two data sites do not synch with each other. this is the reason that whenever you visited the Preston street, they had to manually enter any adjustment and hoping that someone at Annapolis would see the notation and make the adjustment. now imagine, they wanted to place a portal that connect these two data bases together without any issue and right in middle of tax season.
most businesses do not even have aPIN that they are supposed to receive to even log into system and register themselves.
but the good news is that all businesses in Maryland that closed their business around 5 years ago are receiving their PIN, very interesting.
Thank you very much for the tips.
As you stated, not all of our client's businesses receive their PIN #.
I still hesitate to pay manually for the once that I have managed to registered.
I have called Intuit last week and asked them to, at least, update the message about the timeline...
The web site is a joke. And they still not answering the phone due to "higher than normal amount of calls".
I wonder why...
Some Good News, they have extended the penalty and interest to May 2024 . so, you have some time to finish the tax season and plenty of time for them to follow up and pay the withholding. The only issue now is that most clients spent the money and do not have money to pay the withholding.
Just for anybody information, who is interested in paying Maryland Withholding that are due and, especially, overdue.
I was able to schedule payments through Intuit today, April 16th.
Hopefully it is not another glitch...
Fingers crossed that Intuit has fixed this issue. Today I was wondering why I'm paying the monthly payroll fee if I can't pay our MD withholding through QB. Should I be getting a discount?
If it is not fixed by mid-May, then we will be looking at other payroll programs
If (finger crossed) the Intuit did fix the problem, that would be wonderful!
I kinda lost hope over the weekend and registered, filed Forms-506 and scheduled MD Withholding payments for some of our client's that had receive PIN#s through the "MDTaxconnect".
It was very time consuming. And you have to jump through so many hoops...
After trying almost every other day and the systems appears to be accepting the withholding now. Today is 4/16/24. It was not working as of yesterday. Let's hope it goes through! Good Luck!
It went through for me today. Fingers crossed they have fixed it. I only paid January for now. Will wait a couple of days to make sure I don't get a kick back before paying the rest.
How do I bring the rejected tax amounts back to liabilities to pay? QBs does not give me this option.
How do I convert "rejected" MD payments back to "Liabilities to pay"? QBs does not give me this option.
Welcome to the thread, Katia1.
You can void the rejected MD payments so they'll go back to the Liabilities to pay.
To do this, here's how:
That's it! The rejected tax payment will now show up in the Pay Taxes & Other Liabilities section.
