A Pay Invoice button started appearing on our invoice PDFs in QuickBooks Online. We made no changes. How do we stop this from showing up on our invoices? We have not signed up for QB Payments. We have not activated "Accept online payments".
If you click this button on the PDF it goes to a page that says "Looking for a way to pay?" etc. I don't want my customers to go to this link and get confused on how they should pay us. I would like this button to go away. Thank you.
Good evening, @soundsessential.
Welcome back to the Community!
After reviewing your issue and researching possible solutions, there isn't a way to remove this button. I do recommend submitting feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider removing this in the next available update.
Here's how:
I'm only a post away if you need me again. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you for the quick response and information. That's messed up that someone at Intuit thought adding that button to all invoices regardless of using QB Payments or not was a good idea. It's clear why it's being done. It's wrong and messed up.
Feedback has been submitted.
Also need assistance with this. It seems crazy that there would not be a solution to remove this!
I hear your sentiments, 102BooksQ. I'll ensure you can remove the pay button when emailing customer invoices.
If you're not collecting online payments, you can remove the option for customers to pay online and update your online delivery options. This way, the pay button will not appear when sending customer invoices. Let me guide you on how.
After that, change the email options for invoices:
Finally, when you're ready to record customer payments, you might want to review this material as your guide: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.
Feel free to update us in the thread if you have additional questions when managing your invoices or other related concerns in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to lend a hand.
This does not work. We do not have "Accept Online Payments" activated, so there is nothing to toggle off. It says:
Invoice Payments
Accept online payments - Activate
Payment instructions - No custom payment instructions added
Same here:
It's because Intuit makes 1% on the transaction if your customers pay that way. Frustrating that this was added.
Hello, 102BooksQ and soundsessential.
I appreciate all your efforts in trying the steps to work on your end. I'll share some steps on how you can remove the Pay Invoice button on your invoice PDFs.We can open your invoice, then click the Manage icon. After that, go to the Design section and turn off the Add payment link to PDF option at the bottom.
However, if you can't see this option as you didn't activate the online payments, I recommend reaching out to our technical support team. They will be able to pull up your invoice setup in a safe session and assist you further in troubleshooting this matter further. Here's how:

Feel free to comment below, if you have another query for pay invoices. I will answer your concern.
I submitted feedback but can you all push on a fix from your end as well? This isn't a new feature, it's a bug. And a solution isn't "accepting Quickbooks payment".
I am also frustrated by this update. I have found a work around I think.
1) Create an invoice like normal
2) once complete save and close the invoice creation screen
3) exit the invoice creation screen
4) toggle to Sales:Invoice and locate your invoice.
5) It looks like if you send the invoice from here it doesn't have a "pay invoice" button (I'm using the "Old" invoice layout)
I print all my invoices and if I print from there it doesn't have the button.
hope that helps
Kyle
Nice work Kyle. I concur, this workaround works for now. Go to Sales > Invoices, click an invoice and then from the More Actions menu on the right, choose Print and the (annoying, stupid, invasive, call it what you will) Pay Invoice button does not appear.
I think I have normally been making the invoice and then using the actions in the footer of the invoice (before closing it) to print the invoice and this resulted in the button appearing on the PDF.
Thanks for finding this Kyle!

Thanks Kyle. It worked for me as well.
This option does not appear on mine. WHY?
Really, all these forced invoicing changes broke the camels back for my business. After 5 years of QBO I am now searching for a more serious company. This new layout does not work well for my workflow.
I'm concerned about how this situation affects you and your business. I'm here to share insights about the link option, @Altezza.
To have this option showing on your end, you can consider first connecting your QuickBooks Payments account to enable the view and send a link to your customer or add payment link to PDF.
Here's how you link your QB Payment account:

From what I can tell, this method only works if you are using the new "Modern" Template. Even then, it didnt show up for my client. If you are using a custom or old template, the "Pay" button will show up on all PDF versions of the invoice.
"To have this option showing on your end, you need to consider first connecting your QuickBooks Payments"
I have to add Quickbooks Payments to disable the payment link?
I don't want to add Quickbooks Payments. I don't want to use Quickbooks Payments.
I don't want the button on there either. I want the button removed. I don't like it. I don't want to use it.
This option does not appear on my interface.
Please confirm that I don't actually have to first sign up for Quickbooks payments before removing the button to accept payments because that would be really stupid, wouldn't it?
It doesn't work for me no matter which template I use.
These options do not appear for me.
