New York State Payroll Taxes

I pay my New York State employees tax each week I can not seem to set it up so it doesn't pay it electronic I pay it on the nys website each week. Online payroll wants me to pay it on the quarter. My Accountant said I should pay it weekly like I have for 20 years.

New York State Payroll Taxes

Hello there, @Mary anne.

I'd like to share some information about the setup of your payroll taxes.

Online Payroll setup will default based on your previous YTD amounts. You'll want to reach out to your state agency to verify the scheduled payments you have.

Once verified, it would be best to turn off or disable your e-pay bank account in QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Go to Employees, then select Payroll Center.
  2. Select the Pay Liabilities tab. From the Other Activities list, select Change Payment Method.
  3. Select E-pay accounts. You will see a list of your bank accounts and statuses.
  4. Select the old bank account, then select Edit.
  5. To disable it, clear the account number and routing number field. Then select Finish.

Then, manually pay your taxes from the New York State website.

You'll want to check these articles to learn more about handling your e-pay bank account and e-filing federal forms and taxes in QuickBooks Desktop:

New York State Payroll Taxes

Hi there, @my-answer-is-nonsense. Let me share with you some insights about paying state taxes through QuickBooks.

Usually, you need to enroll in E-File and Pay service so you can pay and file your state and federal taxes electronically. I'm adding this link as your guide: Set up e-file and e-pay in Online Payroll.

If you need to change your payroll state tax filing frequency, you can always update it through the Payroll Settings.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
  2. Go to the Gear icon, then click on Payroll Settings.
  3. Select your state tax from the Payroll Settings window, then click edit.
  4. Click on the Change or add new schedule link under Deposit Schedule.
  5. Choose the filing frequency you need.
  6. Follow the on-screen pop-ups to complete the process.

If the weekly option is not available in QuickBooks, then you may need to consult with your state agency about this matter on how you can pay the taxes manually.

I'm adding this link to learn more about paying state taxes electronically: Pay and file payroll taxes and forms in Online Payroll. The same reference also discusses how you can file your forms online.

Additionally, you can review the resources from this link to stay compliant with your state and payroll tax regulations: Payroll Tax Compliance Links.
