Updated Invoice format stopped calculating product entry line totals

Yesterday afternoon as I was invoicing for company - between 2 invoice entries.

the product entry lines stopped automatically calculating the line total. I enter product - quantity - rate - and the amount remains zero!!

It is still happening this morning with cookies & cache cleared and in incognito mode & on 2 different browsers.

Interesting...it works fine in "old layout"!!

Updated Invoice format stopped calculating product entry line totals

Hello there, Karen. I understand the importance of automatically calculating the total amount when generating invoices.

Upon checking here, we have a new investigation (INV-99336) wherein the amount is not automatically calculated when using the new layout. Rest assured, our engineers are working diligently to resolve it and get your business up and running again.

If you want to be added to the list of affected users and receive email updates on the progress of the investigation, I recommend contacting our customer support team.

To reach our support team:

  1. In your QuickBooks Online account, go to the Help menu.
  2. Hover to the Search tab, then click Contact Us.
  3. Type in a short description of your issue and concern in the box provided.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Select the Chat or Callback option.

For future reference, if you've received a payment from your customer, it's important to record it in QuickBooks. It will mark the invoices as paid and will make it easier for you to track your outstanding and paid invoices.

I appreciate your patience and understanding while we look into this further. We will keep you updated on any developments and resolutions. If you have other concerns, I'm still around to help you.

Thank you for letting me know it is being investigated.

I figured out on my own that I could continue to do invoicing in the old layout - the issue is not happening there. I would have appreciated if you would have offered that temporary work around the issue, since invoicing customers is something that a company does not want delayed due to a system error in QB.

Returning to the old layout made it worse. Seems all the settings which were set the entire time were defaulted to original settings ie progress invoicing from a single estimate became unchecked and estimate totals. Afraid to go back. Please let us know if this has been resolved for you!

Thanks

Seems not been resolved.  Happened to us recently, tech support unable to figure out themselves...

Processing new invoice, it does not calculate, qty, price per item, then amount...

it has reflected older invoices as well.

Seems not been resolved.  Happened to us recently, tech support unable to figure out themselves...

Processing new invoice, it does not calculate, qty, price per item, then amount...

The rate column has some sort of pull down menu which was never there and not even doing anything.

it has reflected older invoices as well.

All this happened when QBO has upgraded the templates...

Their own people can't resolve.

I recognize how the issue with the invoice line item amount has affected your business tasks, Sixstar. Let me discuss some information on how to handle this.

To begin with, please know that the investigation (INV-99336) about the invoicing line item amount not calculating based on the quantity and rate has been resolved. If you're still experiencing this unexpected behavior in QuickBooks Online (QBO), I recommend reaching out to our online support team for further assistance.

Please check out the outlined article for the direct phone number for QuickBooks Online support.

In the meantime, we can take some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue, as a workaround. Let's begin by logging into your account using a private browser. Occasionally, the browser's cache of frequently visited page resources can cause errors or unusual responses. You can use the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Shift N

If this method is successful, return to your regular browser and clear the cache to prevent unexpected behavior. Otherwise, you can try using other compatible browsers in QBO.

Additionally, you may find more information on managing invoice recording processes in QuickBooks in these articles:

Please tag my name in your reply on the Community forum for further inquiries about invoicing-related concerns in QuickBooks Online. I'm more than willing to assist you further. Have a pleasant day!

We want your experience with our phone support to be better, @rockinroofer

I can see how essential it is for your invoices to function smoothly in QuickBooks. Let me guide you through some troubleshooting steps to ensure your tasks are completed accurately.

First, try opening your account in a private window. This will help us determine if the issue is related to a cache problem. Here’s how to access incognito mode:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If this solves the problem, just head back to your regular browser and clear its cache to keep everything running smoothly. Otherwise, you can consider using other alternative browsers to rectify the problem.

I've also included some detailed resources on working with custom fields that might be helpful:

I received an email from the engineers on 10/18/24 about this issue, here is what they said:

"Our engineers have determined this is working as designed.... There will be no further updates on this investigation.

This is unacceptable! I cannot believe that accounting software requires a calculator to calculate line totals. QB online is so buggy and glitchy, and QB support's response is "try another browser" or "try a private browser window." Rarely does QB support resolve my issues. I am fed up with QB and will pay anything to NEVER give QB another dollar. Already have meeting scheduled with other companies to switch my books over.

I have this issue too.

We appreciate you joining this thread and letting us know you have the same issue, @theath1.

Previously, we received reports of the invoicing issue where the line item amount was not automatically calculated based on the quantity and rate (INV-99336). At present, the investigation has already been closed and resolved.

To rectify the issue, enter a rate of $1.00 to trigger the calculation and then adjust the amount to your desired value, such as $0.32, etc. It will calculate when the rate is set to a dollar.

However, if the issue persists after following the suggested solution, I recommend contacting our customer support team for further assistance.

To reach our support team:

  1. Go to the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner of QBO.
  2. Proceed to the Assistant tab.
  3. Type in "contact supportin the chat box and press Enter.
  4. Select QuickBooks Online Support, then click Contact Us at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Click Ask about something else, then enter a short description of your concern.
  6. Choose between Chat or Have us call you.

Additionally, once your customers pay their invoices, remember to record those payments to balance your income accounts. For guidance, check out this article: Receive invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other concerns, I'm here to help. Just mention my name in the comments, and I’ll get back to you to assist you further. Stay safe!

Here's the solution that worked for me as the problem I had stemmed from having had a higher level plan (Advanced) then downgrading to Essentials. Upgrade to Quickbooks Plus (this will charge you a pro-rated cost but you can quickly reverse that). Then turn off Price Rules by going to Settings > Accounts and Settings > select the Sales tab > Edit the Prices and services section > Turn off price rules Beta. Then immediately downgrade your plan back to your required level of Quickbooks. This should credit you the pro-rated amount charged during upgrade.
