She wants to transfer who manages her books and just want to be confident when discussing.

Hello,

Whoever is listed as her current accountant will have to remove them from their wholesale billing account.  Then as long as the former accountant is NOT the Master Admin, the customer can remove that former accountant and add a different accounting firm.

The former accountant HAS to remove them from their wholesale billing before anything else can be done though.

I got you covered, 0839.

You can remove your client from wholesale billing with these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Subscriptions & Billing.
  2. Select any clients you want to remove. If that client is inactive, you need to make them active before you continue.
  3. From the Batch Actions dropdown, select Transfer billing to client.
  4. Select Remove.

Note that they will only have read-only access to their QuickBooks company. Your client will get their full access back once they update their billing info.

Furthermore, make sure to assign a new master admin if needed so they can have full control of their company.

Will the new accountant be able to retain the wholesale billing or will that be permanently lost when the client changes accountants?

Hey there, @beckypin12

Thanks for following up with us. I'm happy to provide additional details about wholesale billing in QuickBooks Online.

As long as you transfer your client within 60 days of being removed, they keep the same discounted rate. I've included some steps to transfer wholesale billing clients from another accounting firm below.

  1. First, you'll need to ask your client's previous accounting firm to remove them from their wholesale billing plan.
  2. Once they're removed from the list, you can ask the client to invite you to become their accountant.
  3. Lastly, you'll transfer your client's subscription.

Feel free to take a look at Transfer clients to your whole billing plan for further details.

Additionally, you can see these handy articles I've included below that cover more steps to transfer your clients:
