Is there any way to change 'Annual Total' amount in a budget that is already set up?

Hi @bbml,

Currently, you're only able to edit the Annual Total for your budget when you edit the amounts per month. Allow me to provide more details about this.

The Annual Total column shows the total of all the amounts entered on the column for each month.

This said, you'll need to change the amount in each month to change the amount in the Annual Total column.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other concerns about your budgets.

Hello,

How do you edit that annual total? I can't figure out where to do it.

Thanks!

I'd be happy to walk you through in editing the annual total of your budget in QuickBooks Desktop.

When editing the annual total amount of your budget, you'll need to go back to the created budget and make changes.

Here's how:

  1. Click on Company at the top menu bar.
  2. Select on Planning and Budgeting.
  3. Choose Set Up Budgets.
  4. Select the Budget that you wish to edit.
  5. From there, you can change its amounts.
  6. If you wanted to increase/decrease the monthly amount, you can click on the Adjust Row Amounts to select your desired option.
  7. Click on OK to save changes.

If I am starting my Budget mid-year, how do I show the total income already received before I started took over the association. Example: I took over Sept 2020 and all the income was received Jan 2020.

Hi @associationmanag,

I'll assist with your query on budgets in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

As stated above, you'll have to edit the amounts of each month for the annual total. Concerning your second post, you can create a budget from scratch. This way, you can enter the amounts on each line by hand.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu.
  2. Highlight Planning & Budgeting.
  3. Select Set Up Budgets
  4. Click the Create New Budget button.
  5. Choose the correct year.
  6. Pick Profit and Loss, then hit Next.
  7. On the next page, Include additional criteria if necessary. Tap Next.
  8. Go with the Create budget from scratch option.
  9. Hit Finish.

Take a look at this article for additional details on this process: Create a budget or forecast in QuickBooks Desktop. It includes steps on how you can create forecasts to predict future revenue and cash flow.

Post a comment below if you need anything else. I'll be sure to get back to you.

I have a fiscal year company and have been doing budgets for years on QB.  I just purchased QB 2022 desktop and uploaded my company.  No problem.  However, when I create a new budget, it gives me calendar year columns rather than fiscal year.  It brings up all previous budgets and they are all fiscal year.  How do I solve this problem?

Hi there, @vlcpa001.

Since you're using a new product, your company file's fiscal year might have been set to January. You can still change it by going to the Company Preferences and editing its first month. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu and select My Company.
  2. Click the Pencil icon, then go to the Report Information section.
  3. In the Fiscal Year drop-down list, choose the first month.
  4. Select OK to confirm.

Once done, you can now set up another budget or use your last year's Profit and Loss data to start one. For more details, check out this article: How to use your data to create budgets and forecasts.

In case you need to review your budgets and forecast, simply go to the Reports menu and select Budgets and Forecasts.

Should you have any follow-up questions or concerns, don't hesitate to post again here in the Community or leave a comment on this thread. Take care and have a good one.

I would like to enter my total annual budget for the year and then split it by the 12 months. Do you think QuickBooks will ever offer that option? It would be far less time consuming than altering 4 of the months by 1 cent to get the correct annual total.

Agreed.  I too would like to put in my budget annual amount and not manually enter the divided amount for each month.  It is exceptionally time consuming due to the number of line items.  I see that this has been asked previously.  When will QB fix this issue?????

This is by no means solved.  This issue of being able to enter the annual amount vs the per month amounts for each and every one of numerous line items has been asked and ignored multiple times.  When will QB solve the issue and allow the option??

Hello there, @Bda Suzuki

We hear your thoughts about being able to enter the annual amount versus manually entering the dividend amount for each month. However, the option to do so is not yet available in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

We recognize that each company has unique needs, and I know how the feature you're looking for would benefit and empower your business. I'd recommend submitting your feedback to help improve the program by going to the Send Feedback Online feature in QuickBooks Desktop.
