Can I create estimates with all the pricing information needed to work up the bottom line but not show all that detail in the estimate we send to a customer?

For example, I'd like to add line by line products, labor, accessories, and other needed materials so my cost accounting is good but I don't want my customers seeing that. I want them to see the items they care about and the bottom line, like they will have the following 15 LED light fixtures installed for $x without showing the cost of each fixture, connector, wire, labor etc.

Hi there, zuzack.tom.

I'm happy to help, you definitely can customize what your customers can see. I'm including a couple links below highlighting the process so you can edit and customize your estimates to include and exclude what you see fit.

Go to the Content tab to start customizing the details. Forms have three sections: header, table, and footer. Select a section on the sample form to edit the fields. You'll edit each section separately. You can edit, add, or remove data fields on custom forms. You have many options.

To show or hide data fields:

  1. Select one of the sections.
  2. Select the checkboxes to show or hide fields.

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to post here anytime. Thank you and have a nice afternoon.

Thank you Nick,

I'll take a look and see if the links provided will help me develop the solution I'm looking for. I've already imported many custom invoice and estimate styles so I'm fairly comfortable with that but do have some questions on how to enter data into the custom fields. I'll ask them later if I need the answer to solve my present need. Again, thank you for the reply. I'll probably have follow up questions on this topic.

Can I create estimates with all the pricing information needed to work up the bottom line but not show all that detail in the estimate we send to a customer?

Thank you for the reply Nick,

I've already created and imported many custom invoice and estimate styles so I'm fairly comfortable with that but I do have questions on how to enter data into the various custom fields. I'll ask those questions after I've had a chance to review the links you pointed me to and see if they address my concern. Thanks again. I'll likely have more questions on this topic as I work toward a solution. But to be clear, I'd like to be able to enter all the data into an estimate for QuickBooks to show me the cost detail but use that same data entry to provide the customer with a more limited view (i.e. how much we want to charge them without all the build up) on their estimate. I'll check out your links now.
