Contractor was mistakenly set up as an employee. We don't have QBO payroll, menu only shows ability to add, I cannot find where to list employees so I can remove them.

Thanks for visiting the Community, darren34

I'm here to guide you in removing the mistakenly added employee. You can go to the Employees tab to view the employee list. Here's how to do it:

  1. Select Payroll from the sidebar menu.
  2. Head to the Employees tab.
  3. Choose the appropriate employee from the list.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow from the Action column.
  5. Select Make inactive, then choose Yes to confirm the changes.

I've also included some articles to help invite and manage your contractors in QuickBooks Online:

Keep me posted if you have any other concerns or further questions. I'll always have your back.

(sorry if this reply was duplicated)

On the employees page, there is only a place to sign up for payroll service or add an employee without having the service.  There is no list of employees.  (This is what I meant to clarify in the original question by saying I don't have payroll service).  I cannot find anywhere in the menus or reports a link to see or list employees.

There are times that local internet cache files stored in the system can cause unexpected behavior in the product, darren34.

When a browser's cache storage is full or corrupted, it can cause error messages or not loading on certain webpages in QuickBooks Online. Let's rule this out by using an incognito or private browser:

Here's how:

  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browser: Command + Option + P

If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The overtime collection of data can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.
