Create a rule for credit card payments - not possible?

I am trying to create a rule that identifies credit card payments.

If I select any particular credit card payment during reconciliation and then click "create a rule" am only given these categories as options:

Express, Transfer, or Check

Obviously, I would like to see "Credit Card Payment" as one of the actions, but it's not there. Am I missing something, or did Intuit just not put this very important feature in there?

You can create a rule for credit card payments, DJ FIX. Let me explain how it works in QuickBooks.

You're not missing anything. You can only see ExpenseCheck, or Transfer. The reason is that it's how you pay the credit card bill. It's either an Expense or a Check. The Transfer type is when the credit card is under the bank account you use to pay the bill.

You'll have to select the type when creating the rule depending on how you pay the transaction.

I'll share some articles to guide you:

Create a rule for credit card payments - not possible?

Hi, this is actually not a helpful answer. A credit card payment is not an expense because the transacted expense is already accounted for. And other articles, such as the one I attached below, says that a transfer is only within the same banking institution. Therefore, from what I am seeing, it actually is not possible to create a rule for credit card payments. Can quickbooks help us create this rule?

Create a rule for credit card payments - not possible?

Hello d2m!

I can help you in recording a credit card payments.

All money out transactions are expense, and you can record them in QuickBooks Online using either Check, Expense options. That means, your credit card payment is also an expense.

Although QuickBooks Online offers a Pay down credit card option to record a credit card payment, you can still record it using a Check. Therefore, when you set up a bank rule, you can select the same options. The steps are in this article: Record your payments to credit cards.

Also, you can transfer funds from one account to another as long as they are bank or credit card accounts. Just like in real-life, you can transfer funds from one bank or credit card account to another even if they aren't in the same bank or credit card company.

I added this link if you need help in reconciling your accounts in QuickBooks Online: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

I'm looking forward to assisting you again. Wishing you all the best!
