How to edit JE for AR

How to edit JE for AR? When we receive payments in EU it records in USD bank and difference, due to exchange rate, goes to "bank fees" account . I need to change this account to "profit/loss from exchange". How do I get to this automatic JE in order to change it? And, how can I change this account for already existing JE?

How to edit JE for AR

Hello there, @userilanat.

Let me share some information some information about how your multi-currency transactions are tracked in QuickBooks.

When you enable the multi-currency feature, the system automatically creates an Exchange Gain or Loss account.

Once your EU client pays the invoice you've sent, the difference of the payment is recorded automatically under Exchange Gain or Loss account.

If you're trying to match your downloaded bank transactions with your existing record, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Choose the Banking tab.
  3. Locate your USD bank account.
  4. Search for your customer's payments from the For Review tab.
  5. Double-click on the transaction to expand it.
  6. Select the Find Match option.
  7. From the Match Transactions page, mark the Foreign currency button.
  8. Set the Date Range of the transactions.
  9. Choose the manually added transaction that matches with your downloaded bank transaction.
  10. Click Save

How to edit JE for AR

Thank you.

First of all sorry it took me so long to reply, I don't work on QB on daily basis, thanks a lot for your time. I think I understood the mistake. When the "Bank fees" account was created the DETAIL TYPE was defined as Exchange Gain loss acc and in addition the separate acc "Exchange Gain Loss" with DETAIL TYPE "Other expenses" was set up. And this is why it's all a big mess now.  Is there a way to change DETAIL TYPE or once it all set you cannot change it?

Thanks!

Not to worry, @userilanat. I'm here to make sure everything is reporting correctly.

You can change the detail type for the account you've set up. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Look for the account you'll want to change the detail type.
  3. Under the Action column, click the drop-down arrow and select Edit.
  4. Make all the necessary changes.
  5. Select Yes to confirm.
  6. Select Save and Close.

These instructions are available from this guide: Add or edit an account.

Thank you for reaching out to us, @userilanat.

I'll be glad to help you with your Exchange gain loss concern.

I understand accessing your QuickBooks could help you with your daily tasks. The error may be due to outdated cache files stored in your web browser. Clearing these temporary files is very easy.

Use first the incognito in Google Chrome.

Here's how:

  1. To open Incognito window is with the keyboard shortcut combination Ctrl-Shift-N (Windows) or Command-Shift-N (macOS).
  2. Go to the menu.
  3. Check on the three vertical dots.
  4. Select New Incognito Window from the list.

If the issue still persists you can do the Clear cache and cookies, with these corresponding browsers.

Once you've cleared these files, close and reopen your browser, and sign in to QuickBooks.

You can also check on this article: Troubleshooting common errors for more information about the browser issues.
