Let me share some information about transaction fees, larimhd.

You can send your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO) for free. However, fees are drafted when signing up with Payments.

This means, there will be a payment charge of 2.9% of the total amount + 25c per transaction when your client pays the invoice (using the link that's attached to it).

The transaction fees also include a credit card processing service, set up and monthly service fees, discount rates, per authorizations fees, and others. For more details about this one, check out this link: Standard Payment Fees and Rates .It also provides you an overview of the fees and plans for QuickBooks Payments.

If there are any fees/charges you need to clarify, please reach out to our Merchant Services Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and provide you details of your inquiry.

You can always count on me if you need a hand with setting up recurring payments or any QBO related. I'm always here to address them for you. You have a good one.

The $10 max transaction fee will add up to over 50k a year for me. I will be shutting down qbo payments, and looking for an alternative.  Any suggestions?

Such BS!!  Intuit now charges a fee even for bank to bank checking account drafts.  Intuit updated the subscription terms because they wanted more of your money.

Thank you for posting and sharing your sentiments here in the Community, @celiariahi.

I understand how the price increase on the ACH payments affects your business. However, despite the update, you can request a rate review for your account to avail of payment discounts. Though you can't get free-charge fees for ACH payment, you'll have a discount for it. But you'll need to meet the requirements to get a rate review. Then, if you qualify for the discount, I suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Payments Team to process it for you.

You might want to know more about processing payments in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You can read this article for more details: Take and process payments in QuickBooks Online.

I'm still open to your replies if you need anything else about processing payments.

Intuit has been charging Merchants for the transaction fees since they offered this service. It's in their Agreement, and I think you agreed with the policy. just saying...

This is such bs. How is Intuit legally allowed to charge these fees, yet it's illegal for me to pass them on to my customers??? For a company built on the backs of small business owners, this seems like extortion. I can't wait until there is a better option for us that doesn't penalize those of us who PAY YOUR BIILLS for simply trying to get paid. I'm so sick of dealing with Intuit.

This is such BS. How is it that Intuit can charge me for getting paid, yet it's illegal for me to pass that charge to my customers??? It's crazy that a company who has literally built their business on the backs of us small business owners,  penalizes us for making it convenient for our customers to pay.  I truly cannot wait for the opportunity to use any company besides intuit because this is extortion of the Small Business Owner. We're your Bread and Butter, yet you rape us for every dollar you can.

So, on top of the fee we already pay to use QB, you're saying we now need an additional app to get paid without fees? Sorry, but I thought Intuit was a software company? A software company with the power to write the program however they see fit? A software company that caters directly to small business? Yeah....an extra app should not be necessary for me to get the money I earned. I already pay for the software, what I do with it is on me and MINE.

@PurplePeony

We have yet to find any other accounting app that accepts ACH payments for free.

I already pay monthly to use Quickbooks but now I'm also having to pay for every single time a client pays me. Serves me right for not doing enough research before signing up. Time to start asking friends for better app suggestions. I just wanted something to make freelancing simpler and TBH I was already having my doubts about whether I was getting my money's worth every month. I should have paid more attention when the friend who initially suggested this app to me later told me they quit and found something else.

@einaf639

We have yet to find any accounting app offering a feature to accept ACH for free. If you don't prefer to use any of the free apps as I mentioned earlier as a workaround, consider opening a Wise Business account to accept ACH payments for free. You can run the bank feeds to your QBO account.

Why is there no option to push the upcharge off to the customer instead of the business needing to factor in a higher rate?

Hi Walker627!

I understand how convenient and helpful it is to pass the fee to customers. Let me assist you.

Please note that not all states support convenience or service fees. It is illegal for some states to charge this fee to customers.

However, you can send feedback to our product team and let them know that you need such an option. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.

For now, you'll want to add service fees manually to invoices.

Not really.  Nobody works for free so to expect no fee for a service provided is naive.  Having said that, this "it's so easy, it's just 2.9% plus transactions fee" is ridiculous.  They're making a killing off of duping people into thinking that's just normal.

My standard swipe POS all in runs about 2.4% (volume divided by fees).  My online GoDaddy Payments is a flat 2.3% plus 30c so it averages just under 2.4% total.  With all the complicated "interchange plus" or "tiered", this seems to be good rates all in.

I've looked for ACH solutions too.  When I paid $3000 in property taxes, my county charged a flat $1.50 to process the ACH draft.  I've looked for a solution like that but it's hard to find.  The 1% ($10 max) fee is less than cards but way more than it costs them.  In fact, there was a some law or Congressional intervention for the BS with debit card rates.  The PIN debit costs like $0.60 typically.  So processors just told you it was swipe/signature only.  And then you "only pay" 1% or 1.5%.  But there's basically no risk because it's not the same as them loaning you the money.  It's guaranteed funds and probably costs a lot less for them to process.

I get the hustle.  They're in it to make money.  But when Stripe and PayPal make it look like the industry standard is 2.9% plus transactions fees for cards, they're killing it on fees.  I imagine the ACH racket is similar.  Then again, why would you offer a "free" service?

If you are running a B2B company, you can explore these processors to accept ACH payments for free.
