I still do not have an opening balance for my reconciliation. The opening balance still says zero when I start my reconciliation.

The opening balance is the total amount of the recorded transactions in your account at the beginning of the statement period.
You can manually enter an opening balance amount since all transactions or data has been deleted when you purged your account. Follow the steps in this article on how to do it: Enter opening balances for accounts in QuickBooks Online.
