I snapped some receipts that came in as a bill, how can change them from bill to receipt?

Hi Jillian.

When uploading or sending receipts and bills into QuickBooks Online (QBO), receipts should come in as receipts the same way as bills. Since your receipts are uploaded as bills, I recommend performing some basic troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. I'm here to guide you along the process.

First, delete entries from the Receipts tab.

  1. Click on Banking or Transactions at the left pane.
  2. Go to the Receipts tab.
  3. Select the receipts, then tap on Delete under Action.

After that, reupload them by signing in to QuickBooks through a private browser. It's the place to check if the issue is within the browser you're using.

To save you time, use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P

If it works fine, go back to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh. You can also use another supported and up-to-date browser to narrow down the result.

Is there a backend solution that QBO can create to fix this? 2 years later in 2023, I am having the same issue as OP. It's not my fault that when I take a picture of a receipt in the QBO app that it sometimes uploads as a bill. There should be an easier way to fix this mistake than the user (who made no error) doing all this extra work of deleting it and reuploading it because the app is glitchy. If we were allowed to make rules about how transactions were categorized based on the vendor, perhaps this issue could be avoided altogether.

Hello there, avhummer1.

I can see how this unusual behavior with snapped receipts has impacted your business time. Let's go over some troubleshooting steps to ensure that your uploaded receipts will show up with the correct transaction type.

Before we begin, may I know some of the actions you've performed? Have you tried uploading the receipts using another device?

While I wait for your response, let's clear the app's cache to remove any previously stored data. If you're using an Android device, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings and select Apps.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Online and click on Storage.
  3. Select Clear Data.

For iOS:

  1. Go to Menu ☰ and tap Help & Feedback.
  2. Tap Refresh Data.
  3. Tap Refresh to confirm.

Next, upload your receipts. If you continue to get the same result, install the latest update for your device.

If none of these suggestions work, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online (QBO) Team for further investigation. Once they've determined the cause and a permanent fix is available, they will walk you through the step-by-step instructions on how to implement the permanent fix.
