We have customers who pay different rates for the same product or service. So I activated Pricing Rules beta and created a rule for a given customer (ACME) a specific product (Widget A).
The regular unit price for Widget A is $150. But for ACME, they pay $100 for Widget A. So I created a pricing rule that applies only to ACME individually and only to Widget A individually. The price adjustment method is Custom price per item and the Start and End dates are blank which means the rule never expires.
I create a new invoice for ACME and add the Widget A under Product or service. The price for Widget A is the default $150 and not $100 as per pricing rule.
This is using the the New Invoice Layout. But if I switch the Old Invoice Layout, it works. How can I get it to work with the new invoice format?
Hi there, @RickMeister.
I appreciate you for using the New Invoice Layout in QuickBooks. I'm here to help guide you with your price rules for invoices.
At this time, the New Invoice Layout does not support Price Rules. This is why the price rule created did not work in your invoice and used the default one.
For now, you can switch to the old invoice look by selecting Old Layout from the upper right-hand corner of a new invoice. From there, you can continue creating invoices with price rules. For more details about creating invoices and price rules, see these articles:
Also, we appreciate your understanding and encourage you to share your concerns or ideas via the in-product Feedback tool. Doing this helps them understand the importance of this feature to you and your business.
Here's how to submit feedback:
I'm adding this article for you to keep track of the feedback request you've sent: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.
I've also included an article below to help add specific information to your sales forms and track your payments:
Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with QuickBooks. I want to make sure I've got you covered. Have a good day.
That's too bad. I was hoping to take advantage of the new layout as the stock invoices for the old layout aren't great.
Is pricing rules going to be available for the new invoice layout? Is this a planned feature?
Thanks for getting back to us, Rick.
At this time, there's no specific time frame on when the price rules will be available in the new invoice layout of QuickBooks Online (QBO). While we value your input and opinions, feedback is subject to review and approval by our software engineers. Apart from that, we give priority to multiple interactions. That said, we're unable to guarantee that it will include in any upcoming product enhancements.
As long as you submit a feature request to our product development team, rest assured that we'll roll out updates on our website once available.
Additionally, reports can provide information about your sales and inventory. In accordance with your company's needs, we may customize them to focus on particular areas of your business.
You can drop by the Community anytime for additional assistance with price rules. We're always around to help.
Hello, we are new to online, been with desktop for many years. We got an email saying that on May 6th we will be moved to the new invoicing layout and that the old layout will not be available. What is the status of price rules for this? We use price rules and they are critical to our business. Why would those not be available on a certain layout and then we are going to be forced to use that layout? Or, will they be available?

Hello there, Zen. Please know that a seamless experience when tracking and handling your invoices in QuickBooks Online is our priority.
The price rules feature isn't available in the new invoice layout. However, you can provide feedback and suggestions to our product developers about the new QuickBooks experience. Your input is significant to us and will have a significant effect on our Product Development team's decisions on which features to prioritize for the upcoming releases.
To submit your request:
I recommend using the old layout to manage your price rules for now while we wait for updates.
In addition, you can personalize your sales forms to match your desired professional templates. Refer to this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
If you have other invoice-related inquiries, kindly click the Reply button below or submit your concerns in the Community section. I'm always around the clock committed to providing you with the necessary assistance.
Will I be able to keep the old layout? This is what the email says, it doesn't seem like staying in the old layout will be an option.
We want to let you know about a change to how invoicing works in QuickBooks Online: the capability to switch the old and new invoicing layouts will no longer be available beginning May 6, 2024. |
After that date, the old layout won't be accessible, and you’ll be automatically moved to the new form with no additional steps required. All the underlying data and books remain as they are, and past estimates and invoices will still be available. To access the new form right away, open an invoice and click Update layout. |
Thank you for returning to this thread, ZennersPDX.
I understand how important it is for you to have the old invoice layout. For now, all QuickBooks Online Advanced, QuickBooks Online Plus, and QuickBooks Online Essential users can still switch to the old layout. Let me provide additional information about this.
Once the update is available, you'll no longer have the option to switch back to the old layout. However, as mentioned above by my colleague SirielJeaB, you can still send feedback to our product developers to inform them about your request. Our product developers may consider adding this back to QBO in the future.
Once done, our designated team will review it. You can track your future requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.
You can visit our article on what's new with the invoices and estimates after the updates in QBO.
Don't hesitate to click the Reply button if you have more concerns about the new layout invoice in QBO. I'm always here to answer your queries.
This is completely irresponsible for QuickBooks to remove an important feature like price lists! That’s one of the reasons we chose to buy the product. Clearly other users rely on this feature. I gave my feedback but a lot of good that’s going to do. This needs to be escalated to QuickBooks management.
I am absolutely disgusted with quickbooks. I can't believe how different desktop and online are. The fact that they are forcing us to use a new layout that doesn't offer crucial features that we pay for is unacceptable. They act as though no one uses price rules. I'm sorry, if this is a feature that you offer and even one person uses them, you cannot just shut them off. This disrupts our entire process and there is no workaround other than to manually change the prices on every order? We process hundreds of orders each day and have probably 50 price rules. I don't see any other solution than to find another service.
It's outrageous frankly. I am now going to have to sit here and manually calculate and go in and change 1,000 prices and it is apparent QB could not care less. I will be getting our company off of this system as soon as I possibly can.
I chatted with someone in QB support who said the old invoice format is not being taken away because of customer pushback. We’ll see if that the case.
Well looks like it did get taken away so pretty much killing Price Rules
Yeah, and when I chatted with someone they acted shocked that they weren't working and submitted a ticket to see what happened. I'll tell you what happened. Quickbooks yet again doesn't care about the customers. But that's ok, we can submit feedback and that's how they know what people want. Ha ha ha!!! Right...
And yet, price rules is still an option in settings. I can’t believe that QuickBooks would take an important feature like this away.
Anyone from Intuit want to chime in here? This is a major nuisance.
Price rules are still unavailable in the new invoice layout, @pricerulespls. Allow me to share details about this.
We are currently working on improving the invoice layout, which may cause some functionalities to be unavailable. For more info, check this article: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.
In light of this, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share your valuable suggestions with our product development team. Your feedback will help us improve our interface and provide a better experience for you.
To send your request:
Additionally, you can refer to this article about personalizing your sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
Let us know if you have other concerns regarding the new invoice layout. We're here to share details and provide assistance.
Why bother having them if we cannot even use them? These are a crucial piece to our business and we are crippled without it. We are now having to look into additional applications and costs just to do the basic functions we have been using for years. When are these going to be available?
Yes, I think what folks would like is a commitment to restore this feature and an ETA.
I must have done that 10 times since April. A lot of good that did.
Let me chime in and guide you in sending your feedback, pricerulespls.
Currently, I'm unable to provide a time frame for when product suggestions will be added to the updates. However, I recommend sending feedback to our product developers. We value your feedback and want to make your experience with QuickBooks better.
Here's how to send feedback:
You can refer to this article for more info on the new invoicing experience: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.
For future reference, I've included a guide on generating reports to get a comprehensive summary of your invoices and other transactions: Run reports.
Come back to this post if you have any other concerns about invoicing in the new experience, pricerulespls. I'll be around to address them. Keep safe.
Oh I don't think that any of us are unaware of how to send feedback. I think we are all also aware that feedback goes nowhere and is unanswered.
If their plan was to eventually make price rules work with the new invoice layout you’d think they’d keep the old one active until it’s ready in the new one. What they did is stupid and in willful disregard to customer needs.
