QB desktop pro 2021 1099nec problems already

We are trying to get a count of forms that we need to order for 2022 1099NEC production.  A few days ago, we were able to go into each company and run our 1099NEC summary for 2022.  Worked like a charm.  But now, we are unable to do so and I'm assuming QB had an update that wiped out all of our mapping of accounts for 1099NEC?  WHYYYYYYY ????

Hello, User BM.

I'm here to help generate the form 1099-NEC in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

To isolate the issue, you have to ensure that you have the latest release of a supported version of QuickBooks Desktop. To verify the release you have, please press the F2 key on your keyboard if you are in QuickBooks right now. If you're not in the latest release, you can perform the following steps:

  1. Update QuickBooks to the latest release.
  2. Close and reopen QuickBooks to install them.

Once done, ensure you have the latest payroll update to prevent any payroll issues. Here's how:

  1. In QBDT, go to the Employees menu at the top, then select Get Payroll Updates.
  2. Click the Download Entire Update checkbox.
  3. Choose Download Latest Update. An informational window appears when the download is complete.

Then double-check if you are able to process the 1099-NEC form. To learn more about managing 1099s in QBDT, consider checking out this article: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop

The Community always has your back, and I'm just a post away if you need further assistance with processing your NEC forms. Just leave a comment below, and I'll get back to you. Take care always.

We have the latest software release (I believe that is the problem).

We do not use payroll, so that has nothing to do with it.

We had everything mapped the way we needed it for each company file we have so that we could successfully run 2021 forms in early 2022 (once Quickbooks fixed all of the forms problems).

I am now running the 1099 Summary report for 1/1/2022 through 12/31/2022 so that I can get a count of the forms that we need to order for 2022 reporting.

Those 1099 Summary reports are blank.  Even if I run them for 2021...they are blank.

An update you have done, has re-set all of my vendor payment account mapping to "Omit these payments from 1099".

That means for each company file, I will now have to spend the time and energy to re-map so that I can successfully run 2022 forms next month.

Have you any fix for this?  I don't imagine you could have.

I suspect something in your latest release caused this problem, because the reports we ran before updating worked and the reports we ran after did not.

Third time trying to post this reply...

We have the latest release (I suspect that is the problem).

We do not use payroll, so that should have nothing to do with it.

We had all of our mapping done for our vendors and accounts so that we could successfully run 2021 1099s in early 2022 (once QuickBooks fixed all the problems with the forms).

I am now running the 1099 Summary report, and it is blank.  For 1/1/2022 thru 12/31/2022 AND for last year of 1/1/2021 thru 12/31/2021.

Our mapping for vendor payment accounts has all been re-set to "omit these payments from 1099".

I suspect that your latest update caused this problem.  The reports that I ran before the update worked, and the reports we are running since the update did not.

This means we will have to go into each company file to re-map the accounts before we can run 1099NEC and 1099MISC for 2022.

You should make all of your customers aware of this issue.

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread for adding extra details about your concern, User BM. I also understand that things have been challenging for you with blank behaviors when running the 1099 NEC Summary report. With this, let me share other troubleshooting steps to ensure you can achieve your goal.

Beforehand, please know that updating your QuickBooks Desktop to the recent release keeps your program up to date, ensuring that you have access to the most current features, product improvements, and fixes. That said, this instruction usually can help resolve unusual manners in the software.

Since the Summary report keeps appearing blank, I suggest running the Verify and Rebuild Data Utilities to get this sorted out. The Verify Data utility identifies potential data damage issues that might've caused getting a blank 1099 Summary report, while the Rebuild Data utility repairs damaged data in your company file. Before this, you'll have to secure a backup copy of your company file.

To Verify data:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Scroll down to Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. Click OK.

To Rebuild Data:

  1. Go back to the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Rebuild Data.
  4. Click on OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed.

For further details, you can refer to this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if the issue continues to occur, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They have the tools to pull your account to deep investigate the cause of the problem.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see different details on how 1099 works in QuickBooks and how you can handle this form: Get answers to your 1099 questions.

Don't hesitate to reply below if you still have other concerns related to your 1099 form in QBDT. I'm always here to help, User BM. Have a good one!

I did try your suggested solution.  Does not do anything.

With all due respect, I don't think you are understanding the problem.  Once I rebuild my account mapping, the report does not appear blank.  My complaint is that I'm having to rebuild my account mapping.  My account mapping was in place for 2021...your update wiped out my mapping and reset everything to a default.

I just got my new forms to use for 2022 and I see why QB had to do programming:  this year's official form does not have the year on it...rather, QB now has to print the year within the 1099NEC form.  There is a box now that shows the following:  For calendar year 20 ___.  So, the IRS changed the form again.  Now I have another problem:  your program has hard-coded the year 2021 into that field.  If I try right now to print 2022 1099NEC forms, the program prints 2021 in the date field.  The field should be programmed to pull the last two digits of the year for which you are running the forms.  Your release notes show that a change was made, but I don't see any way to get the correct year to print.  Do you have the solution?

Please let your users know the issues as we will all need to start printing forms very soon.

I have been on a chat with technical support for a few hours.  They admit that all accounts will need to be re-mapped.  So, you need to let your users know that.

They would not check into the issue of the wrong date printing on the 1099s...they said I would need to pay for support to escalate the issue....which is crazy because I am trying to help YOU.  The problem exists in your sample files too so....
