Maybe I'm saying it wrong. Not the customer dashboard, the inactive clients is not checked and they do not show up in that list. Please see screen print below.
On the client detail page where the list of clients is on the left, this is where the deleted/inactive clients are showing up. Please see screen print below.
Thanks for coming back with additional information, cfredenburg.
I appreciate the screenshot as it helps me understand more of your concern.
In QuickBooks Online for Accountant (QBOA), clients will be listed as a customers. Deleting a client will not delete the customer record. Therefore, once you delete a client, you will still need remove the customer record.

I am not the accountant. I am not logged in as the accountant. I am logged in as I normally am and this situation just started showing up last Thursday. It also is showing up on for our reception staff when they log in. I can't be the only one experiencing this.
How do you remove the client record?
Thanks for joining in on this thread, @MarlaSmith.
To make sure I'm on the same page, are you needing to remove the client from your books? If so, I've provided the steps below on how you can make the client inactive:
By doing this, it will make the client inactive so it won't appear in your client list but you still keep their information. If you decide to make them active again in the future, you'll have all their information saved and can continue working with them. I understand exactly what you are asking. This started happening to me in the most recent update. When you search for a client in the column at the left, ALL clients' names including the inactive are showing in the list. They are not going away no matter how many times you unclick the box to include them. I also would like a solution to this.
Hi there, @RP1015. Let me share some troubleshooting steps to help you identify and address the problem of inactive items appearing in the list.
It's possible that the problem is related to accumulated historical data in your browser's cache and cookies. These files are stored to help websites load faster when you revisit them. Clearing them should help address the issue.
Let's start by ruling out any potential webpage issues by accessing your account through an incognito window. Here's how you can open an incognito window in different supported browsers:
If the inactive items don't show, you can switch back to your regular browser and proceed to clear its cache. This will allow you to access QuickBooks with a clean slate. Alternatively, you can also try using a different supported one to see if the issue persists.
Additionally, you can view your sales transactions through various reports and transaction lists in QuickBooks Online.
Feel free to add a reply below if you need further assistance with managing your lists. I'm always here to assist.
That didn't work. Deleted clients are still showing up in the search list.
