Budget vs. Actual that shows date range actuals vs entire year's budget

I just tried customizing the dates within Fiscal Year to Date and it still does not show the whole fiscal year budget. Is Quickbooks working to fix this?

Budget vs. Actual that shows date range actuals vs entire year's budget

This works!!!!! I even entered to include $ Remaining and it showed all three columns Jan-Feb and total Budget for 2023 and $Remaining from Total Budget. When you save the Customization, you have to just go back in, Choose Customize again, make sure all the report settings are set for the entire year and hit run report. It updates it to include the entire year. Oh my gosh. Thank you so much!! I've been dealing with exporting data for years. You're A-MA-ZING!!!

Will you explain how you set this up?  I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add the column for $ remaining from the Annual Budget.

Yes, it's working as designed. But this is not the design we need or want. We need to compare YTD actual against the entire year's budget.

This worked for me too in QBO until 2024.  Now it has stopped working.  It would be nice to get this feature back.

Thank you for participating in this thread, Bobbie. I'd be glad to show you how to customize your report for Budget vs. Actual.

If you're trying to run a Budget vs. Actual report that includes the remaining allocated dollars, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Reports, then select Budget Vs. Actuals.
  2. Tap Customize, and select the drop-down arrow beside Rows/Columns.
  3. Under Period Comparison, mark check the box for $ Remaining.
  4. Click Run report.

You can improve the accuracy of your financial reports by adjusting the dates. Refer to this article for guidance: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online

I got it to work by entering my yearly budget into the first month of my fiscal year.  I only pull the report in the this fiscal year to last month so it works fine using it like this for me.

I want to have a year to date profit and loss total for the year

You can filter the date range to have a year to date for your Profit and Loss report, Ken.  I'll explain it  below to help you achieve the task in QuickBooks.

When running a Profit and Loss report, there isn't a direct way to have a year-to-date option. What we can do is filter the reporting period and ensure the Total only is selected. That way, it will show the total income for each year.

Here's how:

  1. From the left pane, go to the Reports tab.
  2. Go to the Profit and Loss Report.
  3. In the Report period choose Custom and enter the date range.
  4. In the Display column choose Total only in the drop down.

You also have the option to use them outside of QuickBooks by exporting them to Excel. That way, you can compare the amounts for each year or month.

I'd also like to share these articles with you. They can be helpful as additional guides and references when you're running reports in QBO.

If you have any other questions about the reports, please let me know. I'm always here to help. Have a good day.

Budget vs. Actual that shows date range actuals vs entire year's budget

I have had this same issue in QBO.  Need to compare  YTD LM compared to Budget for a full year.  I have not thought about loading the full budget in Month 1.  Can I have more than one budget for a fiscal year?  Then I could have both options

Yes, you can create more than one budget for a fiscal year, kmeansfwc. I'll provide further details below.

You'll need to navigate to the Budget menu and choose Create budget. From there, you'll be directed to a new page or pop-up window where you will be prompted to enter all the necessary data to set up your budget.

Here are articles you can refer to learn more about how you can set budget targets for each class and edit your budgets:
