Can I easily move several entries from one chart of account code to another chart of account code?

Hi there, @shahid1,

Thanks for our time checking this with the Community. I can share some information about moving entries from one account to another.

At the moment, there isn't a batch action for moving transactions in QuickBooks Online. If you'd like to transfer multiple transactions, you'll need edit it one at a time. To do that, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Accounting menu.

  2. Go to the Chart of Accounts tab.

  3. Locate the appropriate account for the transaction.

  4. Select View Register from the Action column.

  5. Select the transaction you want to edit to open the fields.

  6. Click Edit to go to the corresponding transaction form.

  7. Enter your changes.

  8. Select Save.

Being able to do this is a great idea we can add in the program so I'd recommend sending a request to our developers. Doing this will let them know what features would help a business like yours run a little better, and they will consider that in a future update.

Here's how to send our request:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your feedback and suggestions.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select Feedback for the Category.
  6. Click Send message.

I'll do the same thing in my end to reinforce your request. You may also track your suggestion through this website: https://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/

That should do it, @shahid1. Please let me know how if you have any questions. I'm always around to help you out.

What version of QB are your directions for?  There is no option to view register, only run reports when I enter my chart of accounts.

I am trying to move entries coded to 7000 to 4100/4200.  Do you have any instructions for this?

Hi there, TBarthMB19.

Thank you for posting here in the QuickBooks Community.

The reason why you don't have the View register, it could be all the transactions under Charts of Account are income and expenses accounts.

You can move the entries by reviewing your transactions/items and updating their posting accounts.

I'll provide you an example of bank deposit from your transactions.

Here's how:

1. Click the Accounting tab at the left panel. Then, Chart of Accounts.

2. Choose a transaction. Click the Run report drop-down list under Action column.

3. You'll be route into the Account QuickReport page.

4. Under Account column, click the account you've selected..

5. On the drop-down arrow under Add funds to this deposit, choose a customer.

6. Under Account column, change the posting account.

If you wish to add, edit, or delete an account in Chart of Account, you can check this article on how you can do that: Edit Your Chart of Accounts.

I'll be glad to help you if you have any other questions. Have a good day!

Thanks for the instructions, however, it is hard to change any transactions because it keeps telling me that I need to unmatch the transaction first.  When I do that, then it disappears from the chart of accounts. ??

The clients bank changed names and has started mapping the two bank accounts to the wrong account.  How do I fix those?  Ex: deposit for bank a is in bank b.  It will not allow me to change it?

Thank you for joining the thread, @v1967.

This issue happens if the new account was connected to the old bank instead of creating a new bank from the Chart of Accounts. To start with, let's make sure that the new account was set-up correctly from the chart of accounts.

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online account, then click on Accounting at the left pane.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts and review the account from there.

After we have to exclude the entries added from the banking page and import them to the correct account.

To exclude the transaction/s:

  1. Click on Banking at the left pane, then look for the account where the entries are uploaded.
  2. Go to the For Review column.
  3. Select the transactions you want to delete.
  4. Tap on the drop-down arrow under Batch action, then choose Exclude Selected.

Once deleted, you can import those transactions to the correct account using our WebConnect file. You can get the detailed steps in this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

I agree - this is very frustrating; I've spent all morning trying to resolve something that is really straightforward in Sage.  I tried contacting QB but the person I got really didn't seem to have a clue what I was after.

Just trying to move from one chart of accounts to another which should super simple but person I contacted at QuickBooks wanted me to do the all as journal entries. Not sure why you would would need to re enter every transaction that’s already there just needs to be in a different account. The instructions they were previously provided are to old for the 2023 QuickBooks online version so I’m looking for some updated instructions
