Hi there, josephllc.
Good to see you here in QuickBooks Community. Allow me help and to provide some insights about the time format in QuickBooks Online.
The data QuickBooks receives depends on how TeamWork.com (TW) shares the information with us. Each application uses different platforms that might work differently.
In order to get this corrected, I would recommend getting in touch with the TeamWork.com Support to know more about how it integrates with other software like QuickBooks. They might have workarounds they can provide to help you update your invoice time format.
Please know that you're always welcome to drop by if you have any other concerns. Have a great day.
My question is similar but the inverse. My time is entered in decimal format, however when I print the invoice the quantity of hours is converted to hours:minutes. It didn't used to make this conversion, the last time I had hours with a decimal was January and the invoice printed the quantity as a decimal. How can I make the quantity column in the printed invoice go back to decimal format?
Thank you for joining this discussion here in the Community, greibo1.
Similar cases have been reported about billable time on invoices displaying decimals instead of hours and minutes. Our support team has identified this as an ongoing issue.
While our engineers are looking into this, we'll have to gather your account details to add you to the list of affected users. I suggest you give our Care Support Team a call, so we'll be able to update you about the status of the issue.
An email notification will be sent to you once this gets resolved. We’ll also be providing updates through this thread.
Should there'll be anything else you need or questions about invoice time entries, just let me know as I'm here to answer them.
I'm adding to this thread even though my question is about Quickbooks Desktop 2017 - because I can't seem to create a new question.
I want to have invoices show hours:minutes, and to be able to enter the same way (by manually entering information from a different time tracking system). I only have one client who wants this information on invoices, and they've only asked for this recently.
The time format in Preferences | General | Time Format shows Hours:Minutes, as stated in https://community.intuit.com/articles/1762948-entering-time-in-quickbooks-desktop-payroll-changes-to... I have not changed this setting. It was only by reading the article that I found the setting.
I am unable to enter the time on an invoice in hours:minute format even though the setting seems to be correct. I'm still calculating the decimal hours, which is slow and inconvenient.
Thanks
Mike
Hi there, @5circles.
Thank you for posting in the Community. Allow me to help share some information about time format settings in QuickBooks Desktop.
Yes, you're correct. You can set up the time format in the Preferences. However, this is applicable to fields that require hours such as timesheets and paychecks. For invoices, the column available is Quantity. That's why when you add time, QuickBooks automatically converts it to decimals.
I encourage you to send feedback directly to our product developers. This way, we'll be able to know what product features/options we need to add in the future updates. I'll do the same thing on my end to reinforce your suggestion.
To send your feedback, please go to Help menu, choose Send Feedback Online, then click Product Suggestion.
If you need to reach out for more help, our phone agents will be able to help you get to a resolution quickly. Here's how to get in touch with our QuickBooks Desktop Customer Care team:
That should take care of it.
I appreciate your time today, 5circles. Keep me posted if there's any way I can help you. Have a great day.
Has the issue been resolved yet? I still cannot invoice in hours and minutes. How is it available on the desktop version but not the online version?

You were "working" on this back in March. It's now mid-May. Is this resolved? If so, how do we change Invoicing to show hours:minutes rather than decimals? I certainly don't expect my clients to have to take out a calculator to figure out what how much time 1.333 means.
Hello there, @garnac.

Has this been resolved yet? I have the same inquiry. I would like to
format an invoice's time entries in hour-minute (0:00) format.
The issue is about converting the billable time using a third party app, LWBaker.
In QuickBooks Online, the billable-time format is usually in the decimal form. However, if you're using a third-party app, you'll want to contact your provider so they'll help you integrate the time format into QuickBooks.
For QuickBooks Desktop, you have a way to switch the time-format from decimal to minutes. Here's how:
If there's anything else that I can help you with, please leave your reply below.
Hi,
Is this resolved yet? Can I add time format rather than decimal format to my incoices yet? This has been a problem for a very long time.
Hello, @KOHESION.
When converting the billable time to an invoice, the time format (0:00) automatically defaults to decimal format (0.00). This is how QuickBooks Online works as of the moment.
I know the importance of this option for you and your business, I'll take note of this and pass along the information to our product developers. This way, they'll be able to work on this in the coming updates.
Drop a comment below if you have any other questions. I'm always here to help. Have a good day!
My invoices are also showing hour: minute format when printing, but when editing it shows as a decimal.
Is there a way to fix this so all times are shown as a decimal?
My invoiced hours at the moment show as a mix of formats and it is messy :(
Hello, @kentsphone.
At this time it will only show as a decimal. I can leave feedback to our Product Development Team. They're always creating new and easy tools that will help you today and grow with your tomorrow. You can also leave a comment to our developers by going to your account, under Gear icon and selecting Feedback. Allow the screenshot to help guide you in finding it in your account.
I also have a link that will help you keep updated when new features are added to QuickBooks. You"ll just visit QBO Blog. Know I'm always here lending a helping hand. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach back out. Have a great rest of your day.
Hi Team,
Adding in for this thread - our client wants to see the decimal format of their time. When we create the invoice and add them it is in decimal format but when we print the invoice the format becomes Hours:Minutes. How can we make sure that if we print the invoice it will show the decimal format instead of hours:minutes? Thank you.
Hello @archer_104.
Welcome back to the Community.
Currently, it is working as designed feature where decimal billable hours are converted to a ratio format (hours: minutes) when printing invoices. I can see the importance of having the feature to show the decimal format instead of the ratio format.
In the meantime, I'd suggest visiting our blog site to stay current with our latest features and product release updates through this link: QuickBooks Blog.
Also, I'll be adding this article as your reference in receiving and categorizing invoice payments in QuickBooks Online: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.
You can always drop by here if there's anything else you need to know about QuickBooks. Thanks and have a great day!
so did you ever get the solution to this. im having the same issue
Hi all,
I too have this issue. A client just refused my invoice which said 15:30 and she read that as 15.3 hours as opposed to 15 hours and 30 minutes. How do we make this decimal which is the preferred format?
Thanks
Iqbal.
Currently, setting your preferred billable time format to decimal when sending an invoice to your client isn't available in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @chittermorree. I'm here to provide further details about this.
When you enter your client's billable time, you'll have to use the default ratio format (hours: minutes). However, it'll automatically be converted to the decimal format (i.e 0.00) when you add it to an invoice. Then, the said format will be converted back to the first-mentioned one when you print and send the invoice.
In the meantime, you can explore a third-party application that can make decimal as your preferred format for your billable invoices. Just look for a compatible app through the Apps menu or the QBO app store.
In case you want to customize your invoices to include information that matters most to your business, you can refer to this article: Customize invoices in QuickBooks Online. It also contains details about personalizing your invoice email message.
Additionally, I'd recommend visiting our blog site. This way. you'll get the program's latest upgrades, news, and features: The QuickBooks blog.
Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.
Is there any update to this? I'd really like to customize this in the printed invoice if possible.
Currently I have to delete all of the time entries with links (keeping the links to the invoice) and copy/paste the information into a new unlinked line item to make it work properly.
The UI is very confusing. There should be an indication that there will be a different format in the final invoice. I missed that the first time and had a client reject an invoice. Also I intentionally log time to the nearest 6 minutes to get my decimals to line up correctly, so I'd really be ok with a global setting.

Hello, @joshua.
I understand the importance of being able to indicate the correct tracked time when creating invoices for billable time. Currently, the ability to change the time format is currently not available.
In the meantime, you can manually convert the tracked hrs and add it to the invoice.
Also, I'd recommend visiting our QuickBooks Blog to be updated on the latest product improvements and feature releases.
Lastly, I'm adding these articles to help you add a personal touch to your invoices and other sales forms:
Feel free to drop me a comment below if you have any other questions. I'll be more than happy to help. Wishing you a good one.
Why is quickbooks online so different than quickbooks desktop? I need this option to bill my clients. currently it takes me WAY TOO LONG to invoice using quickbooks because I need to convert all my time from HH:MM:SS to decimals before I can even input it to each line item on each invoice for each client. This is a very very broken user experience.
Hi there, jodiecball.
Allow me help and to provide some insights about the time format in QuickBooks.
Since QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) are two different versions, they have different platform design and some features work differently just like the invoice time entry format.
Your sentiments are being noted. It's always our goal to improve our clients experience while working with the software. In the meantime, I encourage you to get in the loop about the latest news and product developments in QuickBooks through this link: Firm of the future.
Please know that you're always welcome to drop by if you have any other concerns with invoice entry format. Have a great day
