Can I get the old invoice view back?

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community, swearuin. Yes, you can get back to the old invoice view or interface back in QuickBooks Online. I've got steps to help you achieve the process.

I recommend going to the Invoice page and you're able to click the Old layout option from there. Before doing so, please know that you may not be able to opt back into the new interface once you switch to the old one.

Here's how to switch to the old view:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Go to the +New icon, then click on Invoice.
  3. Click the Old layout in the top right corner.
  4. Choose the Switch layout button.
  5. Select a specific reason that made you switch layouts.
  6. Click Leave and submit.

Lastly, refer to this article if you need steps on how to record partial invoice payments in QBO: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to post a reply on how this process goes and if you have any other concerns. I'll be here for you. All the best to you and your business, swearuin.

Can I get the old invoice view back?

Hi there, jlong2.

Transitioning to a new platform can be a daunting task, especially when you have already become accustomed to the previous layout. It can be challenging to navigate the new interface and locate the features and tools that were once easily accessible. Additionally, adapting to any changes in the workflow and processes can add to the complexity and frustration of the transition. However, with some patience and persistence, it is possible to overcome these challenges and become proficient with the new platform.

However, if you are using QBO Simple Start, reverting to the old layout form is not possible. I suggest sending Feedback to our product developer team. Our team is dedicated to providing quality customer service and ensuring that your experience with our product is as seamless as possible.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Invoice, then Edit.
  2. On the right corner, click the Feedback.

But if you're using QBO Essential, Plus, and Advanced, you have the option to switch back to the old layout. However, if you're unable to revert to the old Invoice in QuickBooks, your browser may have accumulated excessive historical data. This happens because when you access a website, it stores data from the web page in its cache and cookies. Although these files facilitate faster loading of frequently visited websites, they can sometimes interfere with QuickBooks. To address this problem, clear out the cache and cookies to ensure you can access QuickBooks with a fresh start.

Once you've cleared the cache and cookies, reaccess QuickBooks. If the issue persists, switch to another supported browser. It's important to note that switching to another browser is a temporary solution, and clearing the cache and cookies should be done regularly to ensure a smooth browsing experience. By doing this, you can prevent excessive data accumulation that may cause issues with QuickBooks or other websites.

Thank you for joining this thread, @DaliaZ.

If you're using Simple Start or Essentials, you won't be able to switch to the old layout. However, if you're using Plus or Advanced, you can still switch. Let me guide you on how you can do it.

You can follow these steps:

 1. On the upper left side, click on the Click on the +New

2. Under the Customers column, select the Invoice option.

3. Look for the Old Layout button in the upper-right corner of the screen and click it.

4. A prompt will appear on your screen, read it carefully.

5. Once you are ready, click the Leave button.

I understand that some adjustments may be required for these changes, kuffner. Let me provide you with some information about the new estimate and invoice layout to help you in the transition.

QuickBooks Online has recently made updates to improve the estimate and invoice experience, aiming to make it more user-friendly and enhance its back-end technology. As of April 24, Simple Start and Essential plan users have been migrated to the new interface with no option to switch back to the old layout. Starting on May 6, Plus and Advanced users will be migrated to the new experience with no option to opt out.

For more information on the new estimate and invoice layout, please check out these articles:

Should you have any further inquiries about invoicing in the new experience, please feel comfortable returning to this post, kuffner. I'm always here to guide you through the process of adapting to the updated design. Take care!

Can I get the old invoice view back?

Hi everyone,

I believe I found a way to do this, even though I couldn't find any way shared online to do so and QB Online support wasn't much help.

It worked for me. Give this a try:

Go to an old (perhaps paid) invoice, a legacy invoice if you will. You may find one or more of these legacy invoices appear to be in the modern format. The modern view has trouble displaying these invoices and this seems to be the key to forcing a reversion. Look to the right of the screen for a button that lets you change the layout or template. It may be buried in a menu, but again it's a long the right side of the screen. (I don't want to go through the process again because I'm afraid of messing with my company's invoicing system just to get the exact procedure.)

That's it, you can select the option to revert to an old template there and it forces a reversion more generally, even if you no longer have the "switch to old layout button. Hope this helps others.

Can I get the old invoice view back?

You have made it impossible for me to make invoices in a timely manner. It's the most useless invoice software now. I can't change tax rates, add customers with no address, and it resets to the top of the page EVERY SINGLE TIME I add an item to the invoice. I can't wait to switch from this absolute garbage of a software.

This isn't the type of experience that we want you to have when using the new invoice layout, gab. I acknowledge the effort you'll need to exert to navigate through this due to the transition to the new layout

You're right that through the new changes, customers may take some time to navigate and locate the other features that were effortlessly navigated previously. To address each of your concerns, I'll explain thoroughly so you can change tax rates, add customers without adding an address, and add an item seamlessly.

First and foremost, we can perform browser troubleshooting that resets your browsers to run flawlessly. It is also used to fix any browser-related issues when using QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To start, please use the following keyboard shortcuts for your respective browser:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

From there, access your company file. Then, add your customers as how you want them to be set up, and enter a product item when creating an invoice. After that, it is recommended to clear your browser's cache or cookies to avoid similar issues in the future. Alternatively, opting for one of the browsers that are supported can also be a wise decision.

To change your tax rate, you can  run through the steps below:

  1. In the Invoice transaction, go under the Subtotal and Sales Tax amounts.
  2. Click the See the math hyperlink to route you in choosing a Sales tax rate.

  3. Choose from the dropdown.
  4. Then, hit the Close button.

Stop pretending like the changes are ok.

When I'm entering in invoices it keeps resetting the page to the top because you have the wrong automatic taxes and I am not allowed to change them manually.

This is absolutely insane and you have zero reason to not allow the old layout. Just put it back.

Can I get the old invoice view back?

@gaberoyer yes, it makes no sense that the old invoice was removed when the new invoice was clearly not ready to go live.

@RoseJillB has the Quickbooks team here on this forum been submitting this feedback to the development team? There is no indication that user feedback has had any effect as all our suggestions to leave the old invoice layout in tact while the new invoice is still in development has been ignored. Can your Quickbooks team get an response?

Can I get the old invoice view back?

I am also an angry user when it comes to this. Spare me your stupid company speak. I want to enter informatuon into an invoice with the old form. Just switch it back for God's sake! There is absolutely no reason that your customers should be burdened because you are changing things on the back end. And if this is to make things "simpler" for people, you have failed utterly by making a screen that was once a single thing, have a side pop up window with at least a dozen options. I am interested in NONE of those options, so just make it simpler like it was before!!!

If you can't tell, all your update has done is piss me off every time I have to make an invoice. As soon as I am done in this session, I am going to see if QBO has any good alternatives.
