Can I hide account numbers on Customized Financial Statements?

Hey there, @john161.

We can simply hide the account numbers in the customized reports by unchecking the box beside the Enable account numbers option in the Account and Settings. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and settings.
  2. Select Advanced, then click the edit pencil icon of the Chart of accounts.
  3. Uncheck the box beside Enable account numbers.

     4. Click Save, then select Done.

this doesn't delete all the numbers from the chart of accounts? I just want them to not show in the reports.

Can I hide account numbers on Customized Financial Statements?

Hi ccmagna,

Maybelle_S has given you a good start by sharing the steps to remove account numbers on reports. I'd be happy to add more information about it.

Unchecking the Enable account number checkbox will remove the Number (account numbers) column in the Chart of Accounts. The numbers will be kept, and you will see them again if you re-enable that option. Another way is to simply uncheck the Show account numbers, as shown in the screenshot. Any of the two will remove the numbers on your reports.

Speaking of reports, you can do some customizations to trim down the data you need. Please refer to this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know how the options work for you. I'll be happy to help if you need further assistance. Have a good one!

Can I hide account numbers on Customized Financial Statements?

If you select "Do Not Show Account Numbers" in the settings, it rearranges the groupings in my P&L report to alphabetical.  I need to keep this in the same numbering order, but I just don't want to show the account #s.  Is there a way to do that in QBO Advanced?  This is an option in Enterprise (the version we migrated away from).

It's my pleasure to address your concern for today, Keith-MRES.

Disabling the account numbers to show on your Profit and Loss report should not affect the order of your accounts. I've attached a sample screenshot to see the result after unchecking the Enable account number checkbox from your Advanced settings.

I've also added our page about reports and accounting that I'm sure you'll find helpful. It contains related articles related to the accounting process and reports.

In this case, let's try using a private browser or incognito window as an initial step to fixing this issue. This will eliminate any browser history that may cause a glitch inside QuickBooks. You can refer to the following keyboard shortcuts below:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If it works, close out the private window and clear the cache on the regular browser. This will remove previously-stored browsing data that might have caused the issue. Otherwise, you can try other supported browsers to help narrow down the cause of this behavior.

Since you're planning to switch to QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, you might find this article helpful. From here you can learn about the features and how the software works: QuickBooks Enterprise Features, Enterprise Suite

You know where to go if you have follow-up questions about managing your financial reports. I'll be here to help. Have a good day.

The order does get rearranged to alphabetical, you have just chosen an example where the only two accounts on the same level are already alphabetically arranged ("Bank" then "Car") so you do not notice.

I am having the same issue.  Want to run reports with sub accounts in a logic order.  The report reverts to alphabetical when unchecking the account number flag in Advanced Settings.

Please advise how to fix.  Downloading to excel is not an option.

Can I hide account numbers on Customized Financial Statements?

Sorry, but this is not true.  In Essentials, if one elects NOT to show account numbers, it reorders the reports into Alphabetical order which. makes them worthless for management reporting purposes. The only way to have F/S produced in account number order is to have the numbers show--something management has no interest in seeing.

khandler is absolutely correct. With account numbers printed on the financial statements, the statements are cumbersome for management reporting. Without account numbers, the reports are confusing / worthless. Since it does not appear that Intuit is going to correct this, has anyone found a workaround?

khandler is absolutely correct. It is cumbersome for management to see account numbers on financial statements, and the (alphabetical) reports without the account numbers are useless / confusing. Since Intuit doesn't seem excited about fixing this anytime soon, has anyone found a reasonable workaround?
