Yes. It's possible, system.

In QuickBooks, the cash flow forecast is linked to your budget. Here's how to open this report:

  1. From the Reports menu, select Company & Financial.
  2. Select Cash Flow Forecast.
  3. Customize the report if needed.

I've also added this article for the steps when preparing a cash flow: Steps to Preparing a Cash Flow Forecast.

I'm just around if there's anything that I can help when preparing a cash flow.

Hi, Adrean.

Thank you for your quick response.

I'm wondering why cash flow forecast doesn't reflect a budget I've already create Balance sheet of this fiscal year.

Thanks for getting back to me, system.

The option to create forecasting using a Balance Sheet isn't available. Instead, we'll have to use Profit and Loss.

When you're ready to create a forecast, you can follow these steps:

  1. Click the Company menu.
  2. Select Planning & Budgeting, and then Set Up Forecast.
  3. Select the fiscal year for the forecast.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select an Additional Forecast Criteria.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Choose how you want to create a forecast.
  8. Select Finish.
  9. Enter a forecast.
  10. Click Save.

Afterward, let's review your budge and forecast by opening the Budgets and Forecasts report.

I'm just a post-away if there's anything that I can help. Stay safe!

Thank you for your quick response.

I've already created a budget of Profit and Loss of this fiscal year.

And I can't find "set up forecast" in the menu of "Planning and Budget".

The menu has only "set up budget" and "Cash Flow Projector".

I've got the information you need about the Set Up Forecast feature in QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2018, @system

Currently, this feature is available in the Premier, Accountant, and Enterprise versions. That's why you're only seeing the Set Up Budgets and Cash Flow Projector options from the Planning and Budget menu in the Pro version. View the screenshot below for your visual reference.

Please know that your suggestion matters to us. With this, I'll take note of your request. Also, I'll make sure to submit this to our product engineers. They can evaluate your preference for future releases.

I recommend upgrading your version from Pro to either Premier or Enterprise. This way, you can create a new forecast for your business.

Since you're using the 2018 edition, I'd suggest visiting this website: What's New. It helps you learn more about our product improvements. Just go to the QuickBooks Desktop Pro and Premier section.

As always, you can visit this website: Create A Budget or Forecast. It provides you steps about reviewing your last year's data, setting up budgets or forecasts, and checking the reports.

I'm here anytime you have other concerns. Take care always, @system

Hi, Laymond

Thank you for your detail response.

So let me make sure my understanding is correct.

Quickbooks Desktop 2018 Pro can't show Cash Flow Forecast even though it has "cash flow forecast" in "Report" menu.

Is it correct?

Thanks for getting back to us, @system.

To add some clarification, QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Pro version can show Cash Flow Forecast by accessing it through the Reports menu. This version also has a different way on how to create a forecast. This can be done by using the Cash Flow Projector feature. This allows you to perform scenario analysis and view projections without altering the data in actual QuickBooks ledger.

Here's how:

  1. Go back to the Company menu at the top to get to the Planning & Budgeting.
  2. Choose Cash Flow Projector.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions, then enter the necessary information.
  4. Once done, hit Finish Projection

After that, you can now pull up the Cash Flow Forecast report to review

Please leave a comment below if you have any other questions or concerns, and I'll get back to you right away. I'm always happy to help. Have an amazing weekend!

Hi, FritzF

Thank you for your help.

Could you tell me the followings?
How different "Cash Flow Forecast" and "Cash Flow Projector" are.
Why "Cash Flow Projector" shows a Projection on 2027 as demo.
Why "Cash Flow Forecast" doesn't show cash flow even after creating budget of PL and BS.

Thank you

I'll share with you the answers to your follow-up questions, @system

First, the Cash Flow Forecast is a report that projects your cash flow for a specific period based on the information you've entered in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). The Cash Flow Projector is a tool that lets you build a projection of your cash flows. This tool creates a summary of cash flow requirements, such as cash-on-hand, for the next six weeks. For more details, click Learn more in the Welcome tab of the Cash Flow Projector window. A Help pop-up panel will appear, and I've attached a screenshot to help you locate it.

CashFlowProjectorWindow.PNG

Second, QBDT uses 2027 as the default date for the Cash Flow Projector demo. That's why you're seeing it from the sample projection.

Third, the reporting period may be selected incorrectly on the Cash Flow Forecast report. That's why it doesn't show cash flow after you create a budget of PL and BS. To help fix this, let's make sure the date range matches the budget you've created. You'll have to open the report again. Then, manually change the period from the Dates drop-down as seen in the screenshot below.

Besides, you can review your budgets to help you plan and make smart decisions for your business. Just go to the Reports menu. Then, choose any report from the Budgets section. The screenshot below serves as your visual guide.

I'll be right here to help if there's anything else you need. Have a great rest of your day, @system

Hi, Raymond

Thank you for your careful response.

Compared to Cash Flow Projector, it seems that Cash Flow Forecast fits our business.

However, even though I created PL and BS and set correct period of Cash Flow Forecast, Cash Flow Forecast doesn't appear correctly.

Here is the pic of budget of PL and BS

And here is the CF.

I appreciate you for providing additional information and screenshots above, system.

It's good to hear that the Cash Flow Forecast is the right report that fits your business.

You'll have to create first your A/R transactions (invoices, sales receipts), and A/P transactions (Bills, expenses, checks) for the period so the PL, BS, and the Cash Flow Forecast report to display the correct information. The system will base its projection on the transactions you've entered.

Once ready, you can now create your forecast by referring to this article: Create a budget or forecast in QuickBooks Desktop. It also contains details on how can review your previous year's data and make sure it is set correctly.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.

Hi, Rea_M.

Thank you for your reply.

You wrote; The system will base its projection on the transactions you've entered.

I'm sorry I don't understand why Cash Flow Forecast depends on only the transactions I've entered.

For example, I've entered A/R and A/P transactions of March and I have a plan to expend A/R or A/P transactions of April and May. Then, when I want to see whether the cash shortage occurs or not on May, how should I do?

Sorry for beginner questions.

Thank you

Thanks for getting back to us, @system.

You should see the expected cash (A/R) for invoices and cash out (A/P) for expenses. Once the transactions are paid, the A/R and A/P columns will be zeroed out and the amounts will show in the net inflows.

To further check your Cash Flow Forecast report, I highly suggest contacting our Support team. They're able to pull up and check your account using their screen-sharing (remote access) tool in a secure environment.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. In QBDT, go to the Help menu at the top to get to the QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us at the bottom to connect with our live support.

Just in case, I'll add this article for future reference: Create a budget or forecast in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let me know how it goes or if you have any other concerns in the comment. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. I'm always here to help. Have a good one!
