Change from suntrust to truist

Hi there, @frankvin.

If you're having issues with downloading transactions from the bank due to a change of its name, I'd suggest waiting for them to return the connection. Alternatively, you can get transactions from your bank and upload them to QuickBooks Online manually.

SunTrust Bank merged with Branch Banking and Trust Company, a North Carolina banking corporation ("BB&T") and the combined bank is now known as Truist Bank ("Truist"). You can also reach to your bank about this update via the online banking website and see bank notifications. You can reference this pdf link for more information about the change: Truist Disclosure.

Once your online banking entries are uploaded/downloaded in QuickBooks you can then match and categorize them and reconcile them afterwards.

If there's anything you want to know about banking, feel free to tag me. I can help you anytime. Have a great day!

Hi, @MB561.

There are no reported cases about not being able to connect SunTrust Business Online Banking to QuickBooks. I want to you'll get your account connected seamlessly.

There are lots of possible reasons why bank account is not connecting with QuickBooks. Here are the following:

  • The bank is performing system maintenance.
  • There are notifications from their website that need your attention.
  • Some banks have multiple names on our list. You might want to check and select the correct one or try all possible links.
  • The bank may not be a participating bank. You can contact the bank to request they establish a relationship with Intuit.

First, I recommend logging in to your bank's website to review any alerts that need your attention. Once signed in, perform the following steps:

  1. Review your account page for messages, notifications, or alerts.
  2. Check your bank’s website for any announcements.

Then, go back to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account to perform a manual update. Updating an account refreshes the connection between your bank and QuickBooks.

 Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Update
  3. Enter your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) credentials.
  4. Click Continue update.

If there are changes to your bank's website, update your bank information in QBO as well to match the account's details.

  1. Go to the Banking menu, select the blue tile for your bank.
  2. Click the Edit (Pencil) icon.
  3. Choose Edit sign-in info
  4. Update your details.

You can open this article for more hints about fixing online banking connections.

Once your bank transactions are downloaded into QBO, here's how you can categorize and match them to your existing entries.

If you have any other follow-up questions about the online banking connection. Please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm always here to help. Keep safe!

Suntrust accounts had not updated since 3/25/21.  I reconciled to that date, then disconnected.  I reconnected and brought transactions back since 3/25/21.  Update works now.

Hello, Faz1.

Thank you for joining us here in the Community. There is no reported issue specific to SunTrust Bank about not being able to update their account. It could be your bank may still be working on its accounts with the merging process. You can try connecting again in a few days. In the meantime, you can upload transactions, so you can continue working on them.

Once transactions are downloaded, you'll have to review and categorize them to the existing entries in QBO. This way, you can keep your account updated. You can refer to this article to the step-by-step guide: Categorize and match the transactions in QuickBooks Online

Also, I'd recommend reconciling your SunTruist accounts every month. This will help you monitor your income/expenses and detect any possible errors accordingly. You can check out this article for the detailed steps: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online

Let me know if you have other questions in mind. I want to ensure your success in everything you do and I'm always here to offer help. Stay safe!

I disabled Direct Connect from my SunTrust account.... Enabled direct connect at Truist. That side is good. The QuickBooks side is the issue! To setup bank feeds in QuickBooks, it requires you to login from QuickBooks Web Browser.  Apparently, Truist doesn't accept the web browser in QuickBooks.  It's the only thing I can think of.

When you get to Truist website from within Quickbooks (to set up your online bank feed), you get this message:

"THE BROWSER YOU ARE USING IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED - SO YOU MAY BE MISSING OUT ON SOME OF OUR CONTENT.

Download the latest version of a suported browser, such as Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari to get the full Truist experience"

From within Quickbooks, you see the Truist web browser, but you can not sign in.  I clicked Sign In 10 times...  It will not work.

I was on the phone with QuickBooks for an hour.  They said there is no other way to set up the bank feed other than accessing the account through QuickBooks web browser.  HOW CAN I FIX THIS! Surely, I'm not the only one with this issue.

When I try to import the web connect file, it does not recognize it as my Suntrust checking account (even though the acct number didn’t change with Truist)

it asks if I want to create a new account or send to an existing account, but does not give any options for “existing accounts “

is there a way to change the “Suntrust account “ in QB to Truist? BTW, the financial institution on the web connect file says “BBT-online banking”

Let's make it accessible by providing feedback to our engineers, @Missgoode2shews1.

I appreciate all the efforts you've taken so far to resolve the issue. Setting up the Truist bank by accessing the supported browser is helpful if it'll be unrestricted in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

That said, I'll help you make everything possible in QuickBooks. Sending feature suggestions enables our engineers to develop a solution to enhance your overall QuickBooks experience.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the Help menu and choose to Send Feedback Online
  2. Select Product Suggestion and complete the other details.
  3. Click Send Feedback

Many of the program's current features are available because of user feedback. Also, QuickBooks has a website where you can vote on and provide comments on any future suggestions. To access the page, visit this link: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks.

As a workaround, I'd recommend manually importing your banking transactions into QBDT as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file. This way, you can categorize and reconcile them regularly.

Also, read the following articles about how to solve reconciliation and import issues:

I always check my notifications to respond to any answers. With that, don't hesitate to leave a comment if you have any further questions. I'm delighted to assist you again. Keep safe, Missgoode2shews1.

The web connect file I upload to QBDT manually does not recognize it as the Suntrust bank account I already have even though the account number hasn’t changed. It asks if I want to add a new account or route to an existing account, but gives me no account options.

Establishing Web Connect from a SunTrust Account that is Now Truist.

ISSUE RESOLVED!  (I should've caught this...)

HERE'S HOW...

After you deactivate your online banking from current checking account....

And after you enable/add Direct Connect to your now Truist account.  (Login to banking.... Hover over your name up top, Select profile & settings... Then preferences... Scroll down to preferences.  You'll activate web connect from there.)

After you enable the web connect feature with Truist… It will ask you to associate your data file first. (You’ll do this by logging in/doing online banking in QuickBooks… This is where I had issues before)

This is how to do it:

Go to Bank Feeds to setup new access....  When you search for the Bank...  Search for BB&T - Online (I had to search for BB... And then I found BB&T - Online).  After you select BB&T - Online, you can go to the next screen/page. (You don’t need to login through the QuickBooks web browser.) The next page will give you a place to enter your customer id & password. From there, simply use your online login information.  (I know, SunTrust was different and had a separate pin & customer id).  With this - It's just your Online ID and password.

After login - Your data file has been associated and you can click confirm (or whatever the Truist thing says to click after you've associated your data file).  I don't remember the wording...  I decided to post this after I got this figured out.

I spent forever on this today.... So first, go to your chart of accounts....  Find the bank account and Deactivate all online services.  They do a pretty good job of outlining this in their online pdf document.  If you don't have it already, you can access it here:  https://www.truist.com/content/dam/truist/us/en/documents/internal/olb/QRG-OLB-DirectConnectReenroll...   (Or do a google search for truist suntrust direct connect re enroll)

I had a hard time setting up the new access.  I posted a question earlier.  After I figured it out.... I posted the solution.  Here's the solution I posted.  Finally up and working after spending 3++ hours on it.  Here's what I posted:

After you deactivate your online banking from current checking account....

And after you enable/add Direct Connect to your now Truist account.  (Login to banking.... Hover over your name up top, Select profile & settings... Then preferences... Scroll down to preferences.  You'll activate web connect from there.)

After you enable the web connect feature with Truist… It will ask you to associate your data file first. (You’ll do this by logging in/doing online banking in QuickBooks… This is where I had issues before)

This is how to do it:

After calls to SunTrust and QuickBooks - I finally have this figured out! I started out with Truist's 38 page guide but missed 1 important piece. Truist bought out BB&T and SunTrust.  We were a SunTrust customer.  I would've never thought the answer to my issue was selecting "BB&T - Online" as the bank.  But it was.   (My case # at Qbks is 1577148863... If they're researching, it's the BB&T - Online thing that fixed my issue.)

Truist's guide can be found: https://www.truist.com/content/dam/truist/us/en/documents/internal/olb/QRG-OLB-DirectConnectReenroll...   or by doing a Google search for Truist Suntrust direct connect re enroll

I posted this fix as a reply to my own question and to someone else's question.  Probably not necessary to post here too... However, I'm posting THE FIX just in case it may help someone else and save them the 3-4 hours of misery. (Lol)

Here's how to make the Now TRUIST Direct Connect work:

(Use the Truist guide, posted above, if you need more details on the steps.)

- After you deactivate your online banking from current checking account....

- And after you enable/add Direct Connect to your now Truist account.  (Login to online banking.... Hover over your name up top, Select profile & settings... Then preferences... Scroll down to preferences.  You'll activate web connect from there.)

- After you enable the web connect feature with Truist… It will ask you to associate your data file first. (You’ll do this by logging in/doing online banking in QuickBooks… This is where I had issues before)

This is how to do it:

Go to Bank Feeds to setup new access....  When you search for the Bank...  Search for BB&T - Online  (I searched for BB... And then I found BB&T - Online).  After you select BB&T - Online, you can go to the next screen/page. (You don’t need to login to the bank through the QuickBooks web browser. You already have an account setup.)  Just click Next (clicking advanced may give you the same tab, don't remember 100% but it's not necessary).  The "next" page will give you a place to enter your customer id & password. From there, simply use your online login information.  (I know, SunTrust was different and had a separate pin & customer id).  With Truist, it's actually easier, you just use your Online ID and password.

After login and getting your bank transactions, your data file has now been associated with your account.  Now you can click confirm (or whatever the Truist thing says to click after you've associated your data file).  I don't remember the exact wording...  I decided to post this a little after I got this figured out.

Thanks for getting back with the Community, WPABAKERY.

There's several possible reasons why you're receiving an OLSU error:

  • Internet connection interruption.
  • Invalid download or import format.
  • A problem on your bank financial institution's end.
  • One or more accounts in the company file is damaged or corrupted.
  • Using a discontinued version of Windows or QuickBooks Desktop.

Make sure you've downloaded your latest version of the software. Doing this loads critical patches and fixes into the program to ensure it's working properly.

Next, you'll want to confirm TLS 1.2 is enabled in the latest version of Internet Explorer.

Here's how:

  1. Launch the Internet Explorer browser and make sure you have the latest version. If not, check Microsoft's website for detailed steps on how to update it.
  2. Tap the Gear (⚙️) icon in the upper right section of your browser.
  3. Go to Internet Options, then the Advanced tab.
  4. Scroll down to your Security section.
  5. Remove the checkmark for USE TLS 1.0 and tick USE TLS 1.2.
  6. Hit Apply.
  7. Press OK.
  8. Close all of your open programs and reboot the computer, then try your bank connection again.

If the error's still displaying, follow the next set of troubleshooting steps in our Fix OL and OLSU Bank Feeds errors article.

In the event Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) isn't supported by your bank, you may be able to utilize Web Connect. Check with the financial institution for availability. If they have it, you can find detailed steps on how to import Web Connect files here: Set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have an awesome Wednesday!

These directions are not working for me. I'm coming from a Suntrust account and the thread is about Suntrust. I don't have a BBT login. If I use my Truist Login it refuses it. The info on the page says the Service is provided by http://www.bbt.com...  Not Suntrust or Truist.

Should my Truist login credentials be working in the 'BB&T-Online' bank that Quickbooks has? Because, there is not Truist Bank if you search for it.

Login to Truist first...  Once you get that part done... You'll be activated.

Then you can follow the other steps.  (See my reply above).  I spent HOURS yesterday!

BTW - That is the same problem I started with.  After you login to Truist online banking from your regular web browser... Your new Truist account (with your old password) will be the same.

When you try to do online banking.... You will not try to login to your bank account through Quickbooks AT ALL.... Once you find BB&T online... just click Continue and that's where you'll enter your login name and password. (I think I wrote "next" in my previous reply). But just click continue and you'll see a place to type in your information.

I was previously with SunTrust...  Yesterday, I went to Truist and logged in with my SunTrust ID & Password... So that gave me my new "Truist" online login.  (Which is the exact same as SunTrust was.)

Missgoode2shews1

They do not need to login to the bank account at all through QuickBooks.   This is similar to the issue I had yesterday.  (I worked with QuickBooks technical support yesterday for a while with no resolution... We were not able to access the account from the QuickBooks web browser.  I asked her to send to engineering.  I later found out - that is not necessary at all!)

After they've logged into Truist (from their regular web browser), they'll be active as a Truist user.

I made on slight error in my previous post (I wrote click next & should've said click continue).  Anyway, after they've become an active Truist user....  They'll select BB&T - Online as the bank.  No need to access the web at all!  Just click Continue and it will give them a place to type their online id and password. Those are the same as their regular login.

(You can see my previous post from yesterday... Just replace the word click next with click continue.)

(It's confusing for a SunTrust user because it didn't work like that before... we just had a 4 digit pin.... Not now, it's much easier.)
