I am a premium customer, advanced.. If they cut this off I am going to someone else.
I had a daydream today.
One day I am going to try to bring every single one of my clients back to QuickBooks desktop. And then I'm going to give them Q-box at cost (or use any other cloud based service) that allows me to share the file. Then I'm going to never post on this stupid message board again. Then I'm gonna be happy. Then I'm gonna concentrate on being an accountant again.
Because lets be honest. QBO was pretty awful at the beginning. Then it got into it's golden age and things seemed like it was trending up. But now, I'm so done with this constantly evolving pile of crap they think is innovative.
I want back to desktop.
I gave it a good go. I'll tell Intuit, "It's me, not you" and walk away into the sunset.
That was a great dream.
It's funny, I've dreamt of developing my own just basic table. As someone with a bit of experience in databases, why not just use that knowledge and give them what they need - reports. It doesn't line the pockets of these greedy corporations, and my clients spend less, I have far fewer headaches, and the work still gets done the same way. I can download CSV from most banks. And, honestly, isn't that really all QBO is giving us? The other stuff are just bells and whistles that most clients don't even use. Are there areas that a database couldn't replicate? Sure. But there are far cheaper one-off options (invoicing, for example). I'm just really done pushing any QBO agenda. I don't even want to take their stupid QBO Advanced course anymore, but I fear that will risk whatever discounts I have remaining, and at the same time: what better time to tell my clients that they either follow me or QBO?
It's just an awful POS that people use because they feel they have no other option (i.e. Amazon, Walmart). If you can afford to lose clients, move elsewhere, etc., please do. I know some of us can't, but it starts with those who can.
That must have been a sweet dream to have after the nightmare of the modern view report! Ha ha!!
We all need to start singing "These Boots Are Made for Walking" and that's what we should do!
I think you may find that a challenging transition in 2024.
I received a letter that QuickBooks Online was going to stop allowing the option to use the Classic View for reports. I just spent hours trying to make the modern view make the profit and loss reports I use all day long, every day, that I have used for years! And I cannot figure it out and I hate the modern view. Can you please let it be an option to keep using the classic view?
I can share some information about the different views when running reports in QuickBooks Online, @MGWMI.
By default, when you run a report, it'll be on the modern view if it applies. However, if you prefer the old view, you can click on the Switch to classic view button. Here's a screenshot:
I understand how important it is to be able to set either classic or modern view for your reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This will be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I'll take note of it. I also recommend leaving feedback from within the account.
Here are the steps to do that:
You can check out this article for more information about providing feedback to make the program better: How do I submit feedback?. For now, I recommend checking our Feedback page for timely updates.
Also, I've attached a link you can visit to stay up-to-date with the latest news and features in QuickBooks: QuickBooks News & Updates.
Here's a reference about customizing reports in QuickBooks Online. It'll let you apply multiple filters to your reports to get all the information that you need.
Let me know if you need more information about the different views when running your reports. I'm always here to answer them for you. Keep safe, and have a wonderful day!
I too HATE HATE HATE the modern view. And I just got an email that all reports will be changing to the new 'enhanced experience' WITHOUT the option to switch back to the classic view. YUCK!
The 2024 filing season is almost upon us and every day I'm seeing more and more of my company files default to modern view. I was just checking my own books and it defaulted to accrual basis even though the company wide settings say cash. To make matters worse, the cash/accrual setting is hidden.
Now when I run any report I won't be able to trust the numbers. This is unacceptable. I've said for years that Quickbooks Online works great until they break something that wasn't broken before, then you have to factor the workaround into your entire process. This is an egregious example and clearly I'm not the only one pissed off about it.
It's pathetic that the requests for turning off modern view by default have been pouring in since early 2023 and Intuit still has done nothing. I imagine they are pouring all of their resources into rolling out the next price increase.
There's no other Vendor my firm pays more to than Intuit Quickbooks (not even close). Even the tax software (unfortunately owned by Intuit) costs far less. I can't imagine that any other software vendor receiving this much revenue from my firm would roll out a forced beta test that you can't turn off, then 1 year later still have no option other than "submit feedback".
I have said this many times. I don't want default Moder View. QBO does not listen, and moreover they don't care.
I enjoy reading these old threads full of literal months of negative feedback on Modern View and it's lack of usability knowing that Intuit is going to plow ahead with it anyway.
They don't care about Feedback. At this point those emails are probably being filtered or excluded from the queue. The only thing that will get their attention is $ loss.
Intuit knows that most accountants are locked in and forced to use Quickbooks, just like we have been for decades now, because it is the program our clients are using. So if the program is becoming unstable and its output is no longer trustworthy then accountants should take this opportunity to present other options to the clients to get them off Intuit products and onto more stable platforms for good.
Then, and only then, will Intuit take notice.
We have been looking at other options. Xero looks promising?
If anyone has other suggestions, please share!
Please vote here to keep classic reports (needs 50 votes, it's only got 9 because only 9 people know the page exists)
The OP here has 62 thumbs up and we have 10 pages of complaints. What does that tell you about Intuit and their promises?
Tell your people to come over and join our people.
Then we'll attack at dawn and bask in the glory of good software forevermore!
I voted. We are up to 10. Come on people, if you don' t like it. Please vote don't just complain.
I am not sure how to vote but if this is it I vote for classic view, modern view never needed to exist in the first place

Hi there, klous.
Did you encounter issues in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account? Adding additional details of your concern will help us provide the accurate steps to fix this. Sharing a screenshot would be a great help, too.
Please don't hesitate to get back on this thread. I'll keep an eye on your response.
The issue is that Intuit remains tone-deaf to the overwhelming rejection of your so-called "modern view". Let people select one or the other instead of a forced default to something no one wants.
I am based in UK. I agree with you, can't stand the new view and prefer the classic so every time I run a report I have to click to change to classic view. I heard QB was changing again so I think more report will open with new view.
Does anyone at QB survey to see if users want these changes?
If the new view was user friendly I wouldn't mind and I am not usually adverse to change, but I don't feel the new view is a good change.
Can someone from QB let me know why they made this change, I can't imagine for one minute it was made by users.
It wouldn't be so bad if you could make a change as a user that your account always opens in classic view so you don't have to keep switching.
PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS QB.
Hello, 193514293889687, thanks for posting on this thread and sharing your opinion on this. we do take onboard all the feedback that is left by customers and we do pass this on to the developer team. If you also look at the post by klous-1 on this post and put your vote on this as well, as there need to be 50 votes thanks.
Agreed!!! They need to do away with Modern View.
Classic View works just fine!
So here we are almost a year later and accountants/bookkeepers still hate this modern view. PLEASE GET RID OF IT. Please stop FIXING things. Over the last year and a half I have come to despise all things Intuit related after loving it for over 20 years.
Please help us understand why you simply will not listen to our needs. Whomever is in charge of these things please FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING listen to your end users.
I'm so confused as to why Intuit simply does not hear us.
