Hello,

At this time auto-save or draft-save is not a feature of QBO.

I encourage you to submit feedback requesting this feature by clicking the gear icon and then FEEDBACK to submit your recommendation for this feature.

Hello there, db0515,

@MarshallA is right. To add up, you need to manually save the invoice you've created in the system. QBO doesn't automatically save them without clicking the Save or Save and close button.

On the other hand, QuickBooks uses a timeout feature for your security. This feature helps prevent unauthorized users from accessing your data when you're away from the computer. The default setting is 1 hour. And, it will log out if you are working and is inactive for a period of time.

Let's check your preferences:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙️, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced.
  3. Click Edit ✎ from the Other preferences section.
  4. Choose 12, or 3 hours from the Sign me out if inactive ▼ drop-down menu.
    timeoutduration.PNG
  5. Click Save, then Done.

Also, I highly suggest clearing the browser's cache and cookies. This helps refresh website preferences that might be causing issues when you use QuickBooks.

Let me know if there's anything else you need. I'm always right here to help you with any QuickBooks issues you may be having.

Thank you and sty safe!

Thank you for feedback.  I will try to clear cache.  I have reset the timeout to 3 hours now.

Quickbooks would log me out after 10 min of inactivity consistently.  I have tried to get in the habit of saving every few minutes but that is a difficult habit to train myself to in the age of cloud and autosave google docs - etc.

I will see if the 3 Hr setting has an y effect.  I have been struggling with this "feature" for many years now.  I recognize the "security" feature but am the only user on this computer and network and would rather be able to complete an intricate invoice once vs having to restart many times while compiling line items from outside sources.   It can sometimes take me several hours to tally a large invoice for my AV rental and production company.  Tedious work that is hard to loose due to a auto-logout.

I 1,000,000% agree!!

This is the WORST program ever!! I absolutely HATE it!! I have just lost another 3 hours of my time creating an invoice only to lose it in its entirety ~ then add insult to injury ~ being on the phone with Intuit for another hours for them to tell me its my fault that I lost the invoic because either A. I am not using Chrome or B. I didn't clear my cache!?!?!?!?!? WTF??????????

Are you kidding me???? And I PAY for this horrible service?

There is no warning, no autosave, no one to be held accountable. Just for the record, it did not autosave in Chrome as the gentleman on the phone suggested.

I give Quickbooks a negative star. As soon as I find a month of free time on my hands I will begin the migration to a different company.

You're too kind. I am outraged! This happens ALL THE TIME!!!!

I think QB needs to have the option to NEVER LOG ME OUT!!!!!! IT SHOULD BE UP TO THE USER if they want their privacy, NOT QUICKBOOKS!!!!!!!!!!

This is such basic functionality it is a crying shame that Intuit doesn't care enough about its users to offer this natively, without having to be told or suggested in feedback. Duh.

This is one of MANY sources of frustration when using quickbooks online. I cant remember the last time I used this application (and its every day) and wasn't disappointed. Ive lost SOOOOOOOOOO MANY invoices and proposals because of this feature. They really shouldn't even call this quickbooks because its no where near what quickbooks once was; but were paying 10 times the price.

Whats hilarious is that a message popped up when I was typing my reply that said "message auto saved"

😂😂.  This reply is autosaved but they dont even give the option to auto save documents that are important and valuable to their users. Well done once again quickbooks
