When I enter a deposit, if the line is for a check, I put the check number in the CHK NO. column. If I print the deposit, these check numbers show up as expected. But if I run a Deposit Detail report, from either the right click menu or the Reports menu, there's a column headed by Num but no check numbers.
If the line is for a payment received, that check number shows up as expected.
I must be missing a trick here, for what good is a Detail Report that doesn't show the details that were entered into the transaction?
If I have to run two reports and merge them manually outside QB, that would be acceptable (for my very small organization, anyway.)

Hello there, TaumFAdmin. I'm here to explain why your deposit number doesn't show in your Deposit Detail report and help you achieve your goal.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), when you manually enter the deposit and fill in the CHK NO. Field it won't show up in the Deposit Detail report. This is why there is no information in the Num field.
Moreover, the numbers displayed in the Num column on the referenced report originate from the assigned check number when the customer payment is processed. If you manually record a customer payment, enter a check number, and then make a deposit, this number will appear on the Deposit Detail report.
Therefore, I suggest generating and customizing the Custom Transaction Detail report if you wish to view the check number associated with a manually entered deposit. This will allow you to see comprehensive details about your transaction. Let me navigate you through this process:
Additionally, you can refer to this article for steps on memorizing reports in QuickBooks, ensuring that the settings for the customized report are available for future use: Create, access, and modify memorized reports.
Don't hesitate to return to this thread if you still have other inquiries with check numbers not appearing in QBDT reports. I'll be here to address them any time.

I cannot duplicate the example reports to show the information I am looking for.
I still do not understand why a report entitled Deposit Detail does not show the details I entered into the deposit.
For clarity, most of the deposit lines are donations, not payments in response to invoices sent to 'customers', or 'sales'. The exceptions to that are payments in [partial] fulfillment of pledges (promises to pay) or grant installments which we must voucher for individually.
Since my process involves reformatting the reports of deposits anyway, I will just go ahead and enter the check numbers in my output report. Fortunately a deposit with more than about a dozen checks is very rare here.
Thanks for your help.
