Also, does anyone know if QBO Advanced is experiencing these same issues? Not sure if this nightmare was forced onto that level as I don’t have any clients using it.
We hear you, Dmack1987.
We understand that the recent changes made to the invoice layout in QuickBooks Online (QBO) have caused some confusion and inconvenience for you and other users. We want to assure you that these changes have affected all QBO editions, including QBO Advanced, QuickBooks Plus, and QuickBooks Essentials.
However, for the Simple Start and Essential versions, the new layout experience will be permanent. On the other hand, the option to switch back to the old layout will be available for Plus and Advanced subscriptions.
We acknowledge that change can be challenging, but we made these adjustments to improve the user experience and streamline the invoicing process for everyone. However, we understand that some users may prefer the old layout, and we have made it possible for you to switch back to it that is if you're a Plus and Advanced user.
To switch back to the old layout, follow these steps:
1. Click on the + New button.
2. Select Invoice.
3. Click on the Old Layout button located in the top-right corner of the screen.
4. Press the Switch to old layout button.
In addition, we offer the flexibility to switch back and forth between the old and new layouts, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

You're always welcome to leave a reply below if you need further assistance with invoice layout in QBO. I'm still here to help. Best regards.
This is BS. I was still able to use my old layout and it was working just fine until today. Now even though you are letting users use their old format (which I was still using), you changed that as well. I work in different areas with different tax rates. I can no longer choose the tax rate from the invoice in progress, I have to go in to the gear icon and override the tax rate.
If I can still use the old layout, why is that now different?

And now the same layout I had this morning is totally different from totally different this afernoon.
This is horrible once again!
Not being able to tab through to add products or services is so frustrating. I have been clicking the Use Old Layout button for months now, but it is gone for me today, too. And my invoices look terrible once printed. I can't eliminate the Product Code on the printed invoice (something I was thrilled to be able to do with the old layout), and the font when printed is so tiny! I am not enjoying any part of this new update, and nothing about it seems to be more "streamlined" or "easier to use."
I hear everyone's sentiments about the new invoicing layout experience and understand the impact this has had on your business operations.
Being able to switch back to the old layout preference is a convenient process to complete customer sales tasks efficiently in your account. You can send these valuable suggestions directly to our product engineers to allow this ability on your invoices. They may consider your feedback and will work on its progress to include them back in future product updates.
Here's how to submit your feature request:
For future reference, you may want to track and enter customer-paid invoices and run specific reports to help review your business finances.
I'll always be around on this thread if there's anything else you need further assistance with when managing receivable workflows in your account. Feel free to let me know, and I'll make sure to get you covered. Stay safe.
I don't know if there is anything more condescending in life than having someone who either has no intention of or no power to do anything about a complaint you have telling you they "hear you". Patting us on the head like children and then giving the same tired response about submitting useless feedback and how much you care has gotten beyond tiresome. Do you honestly think someone had the ability to take extra steps to sign up for a QBO forum support account so they could voice their complaints hasn't already submitted MULTIPLE feedback reports???? Do you truly think we are so stupid? We ARE submitting them but you guys aren't listening. One more time for anyone at QBO who may actually be listening and has ANY authority to do ANYTHING about this disaster...

The custom fields are unable to added added to on the new style invoice in the app making it usless for my company.
It's nice to see you here, Jon d. Let me share the availability of the custom fields in invoices using the app.
Please know that the custom fields won't sync to the mobile app. That's why you're unable to see them when creating a transaction.
In this case, I recommend submitting feedback to our product developers. They will review and consider implementing it in the future according to the number of user requests. I'll show you how:
For Android devices:
For iOS devices:
As a workaround, you may consider making an invoice using a browser. Any modifications made will show from there. Here's an article for your guide: Create invoices in QuickBooks Online.
You can also check out this reference for more details: Compare mobile app features.
Feel free to leave a comment below if you need additional help in managing invoices. I'll be here to assist you. Have a great day.
"the custom fields won't sync to the mobile app. That's why you're unable to see them when creating a transaction."
Wow, it's almost like this product is useless for many businesses. If only there was a message board somewhere that the users would have let the company know for months that the changes they are forcing are breaking the software.
Why do I need to send feed back? I just told you what the problem is!! If you work for QuickBooks can’t you get it resolved?
That certainly does not work. The old layout icon does not exist. I think the confusion is we want to create invoices the old way. I am not concerned about the way they look to the customer.
Thanks for getting involved with this thread, Tony1091.
If you've switched to the new invoice creation layout, you can switch back to your old layout any time. I've confirmed the option is available in our test drive account.
Here's how to find and use it:
You can switch back to your new layout by selecting Update layout.
You'll also want to be aware that all subscribers will eventually be moved over to their new layout.
If you're unable to see your Old layout option as some other users in this thread have mentioned, I'd initially recommend confirming you meet each of our system requirements. In the event you've already confirmed you meet each requirement, you'll want to try clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies. Browsers store these temporary files and they can sometimes cause issues with certain webpages.
If you continue not finding your Old layout option while creating/editing invoices, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with invoices which may come in handy moving forward:
If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have an awesome Wednesday!
Yes- I literally used the words HATE when I gave QB feedback. Why would they change the look and not allow us the option to switch. I has made my life a nightmare with invoicing- especially end of month...with no warning. Ridiculous! I have called to try and switch back to the old version and this is not even an option. It is not more streamlined and there are kinks in the design when going to copy / duplicate an old invoice.
It's just horrible!!
I have tried to revert back to old version and this was not possible. Did not give me an option to go to old layout.
In addition, I called Quickbooks to try and revert- no success. I also tried chatting with QB hoping someone else could help me- NO luck. I am very unhappy.
It's so bad. It feels and looks like I am using software circa 1995. It's actually comical that Intuit acts like this is some kind of upgrade they are rolling out for customers. Not that they've ever actually cared about customers, It just reinforces to the world that Intuit is entirely subpar. Can't wait to find new software and leave Quickbooks in the dust where it belongs.
Completely agree. One thing is for certain: Intuit did not do this "for the customer". It's complete nonsense. The new format is terrible in so many regards. It is not intuitive. It is most definitely not modern.
I have the advanced version, and switching back to the old version isn’t an option. Your scripted replies are not helpful at all! Oh wait, I just need to give my “feedback” and my concerns with be addressed right?! This layout creates multiple pages on the invoice because the columns are so narrow. They look so unprofessional! The last invoice I created actually cut details in half on the page break!!! I am so tired of dealing with this software program!!! You guys don’t care about your customers. You only care about the bottom line! Even the Statement form is a joke! I’ve worked with customer service a number of times on that form and was told it just isn’t an option to customize it, then why have it in the program?
Looks like your scripted answer is outdated. This same reply has been posted for over a year! We are not stupid! We know what you’re doing to try to appease us, but it’s condescending! I don’t care about being praised about my comments on the community forums! This isn’t a social media platform! Our business spends a great deal of money for our subscriptions with Intuit, and we want our money to actually be worth our investment.
It's nice to see you here, Marla123. I know that it is very important to have useful and functional invoices in an accounting system. Let me share the availability of actually useful invoices in QuickBooks Online and how to get them.
Please know that actually useful invoices are not available in QuickBooks Online and there's no way to get them. Know that the product team strives to provide them to everyone - and so we've taken the old, scruffy, and feature poor invoices away and replaced them with new invoices with even less functionality, which are harder to use and look well, interesting when you print them. Comical, really. And, you know, we all like to have a laugh!
We've surveyed our customers and found that they love the new invoices, which are now so simple to use because they have almost no functionality! It's a beautiful thing! Customers love this, especially those that have little to no need to use invoices! It's amazing really.
Rest assured, our research tells us that if you keep using them for awhile you'll love them too! And we paid a lot of money for that research, and so we know it's right.
Please know that we care. If you'll use our suggestion box to tell us about what you need, we think that will make you feel better. Again, our research shows that it does, so we're sure it will. We will not actually do anything that you ask for, because - you know - we know what we're doing. We have marketing data and surveys to prove it! But rest assured, we will probably someday assign someone to read the suggestions and compile a report and have a meeting to read the report and then file the report in a safe place. You can be sure of that, which we are sure is a very good substitute for actually useful software!
Thank you so much!!! You made my day!!! I needed a good belly laugh
See what mean?! This isn’t why I’m here. This isn’t a social media platform! They spend more time praising your comments than actually doing something to change the situation!
That is so spot on, I'm surprised it hasn't been removed yet
This was practically therapeutic to read lol! Thank you! Definitely had me cracking up. I kind of wish they would be this honest with us since it's a lot less insulting.
