General Journal entry

I have created a general journal entry with multiple accounts on multiple lines. I have tried to open the entry to add more adjustments but it will not open.

I inserted a blank line on the first row so it wouldn't show the first account on all of the lines, is this the reason and if so how do i open it to make the correction?

General Journal entry

Hi, @GSmith123. I'm here to ensure you'll be able to open the entry and make adjustments in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Inserting a blank line on the first row won't affect when opening your entry. To rectify this, let's perform some troubleshooting steps. You can run the Verify and Rebuild tool. It allows your QuickBooks software to refresh the data inside the company file.

First, make sure to update your QBDT to the latest version so you always have the latest features and fixes.

Then. create a backup copy of your company file. It enables you to restore if any changes occur. To verify data, follow the steps below.

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.

  4. Click OK when you see the message, QuickBooks detected no problem with your data.
  5. If Verify finds an issue with your data, you'll be prompted to Rebuild Now or View Errors.
  6. Click Close or View Errors and take note of the specific error message.

Next is to rebuild data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Rebuild Data.

  4. Click OK if you receive a prompt to back up your company file.
  5. Click OK when you get the message, Rebuild has completed and proceeds to the next step.
  6. Run Rebuild Data again to make sure there is no error.

Furthermore, here's an article you can read to learn how to reconcile your accounts so they match your bank and credit card statements: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'll be here if you have additional questions or concerns about managing your accounts in QBDT. Take care and have a nice day.
