When I imported QB info from the bank the deposits do not have the correct information on them for the customer or vendor. It seems to be in a field that can't be changed, It shows up in the ledger with the wrong name. Can it be saved or not. It seems as the only way to fix it is delete the entry.
I have QB Premier Edition 2019
HELP!!!
This is really important in our business and it seems like such a simple change.
THANKS
bobby J
Good afternoon, @BobbyJ.
I'm here to help you get back to business and change customer/vendor names.
Since the vendor/customer names are incorrect you could go to the "Add/Edit Mulitple List Entries" option in QuickBooks Desktop that allows users to change multiple entries within an account in a single window, helping eliminate the potential for entry errors and speeding up the editing process.
Here's how:
Pick "Customize Columns" in the upper-right corner of the window to change which columns appear on your screen. Select items from the column on the left side of the screen and click on "Add" to include those columns on your screen. The list on the right side of the screen contains the columns that will appear. Choose an entry there and "Remove" to delete that column from your screen or "Move Up" or "Move Down" to change the display order. The order from top to bottom in this list is the order items will appear from left to right on the edit screen. Click "OK" to return to the edit screen.
Select the field you want to change and type the new information.
Go to "Save Changes" in the lower-right corner once you have made all the needed edits.
Here is also a detailed article about the Add/Edit option as well: Add and Edit Multiple Customers, Vendors, and items
If you have any more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach back out. Happy Friday to you!
I have two screenshots to show you what I am talking about but it appears as though I can only show you one. The attached shows where I am trying to change the Received From.
The GL shows Worldpay as the Name. If those aren't the same then where is the GL getting it's info. It can't be changed.
Does all of that make any sense at all.
Again thanks for your reply. And sorry to be such a pain.
Helping you is our top priority, @BobbyJ.
I appreciate you getting back to us and providing a screenshot regarding your concern. Let's perform some troubleshooting steps so you can change the name of the imported bank deposit.
Before we start, please know that QuickBooks is only dependent on the information on what you've imported or your bank provided. Also, did you received an error message when changing the name of the bank deposit? Any additional information or screenshot would be greatly appreciated.
To check if it's a data issue, let's run the Verify and Rebuild Utility tools to get this fixed. It's a good start when it comes to fixing data-related issues.
To run the Verify Data utility:
Here’s how to run the Rebuild utility:
After verifying and rebuilding the data, go back and try to change the name of your imported bank deposit.
If the issue persists, you can read this article for additional troubleshooting steps: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

I appreciate the complete details about your concern, @BobbyJ.
When importing bank transactions, you can use Web Connect (.QBO) files. This file is downloaded directly from your bank's website. By doing this, you can ensure that all transactions will have an accurate customer or vendor's name.
Let's first ensure to download your transactions from your bank. Once completed, import it to QuickBooks. Here's how:
By doing this, your transactions are recorded directly to your bank's register. You can check this article for more detailed information: Import web connect (.qbo) files.
On the other hand, looking at the screenshot you've provided, I can see that you're trying to manually add bank deposits. When doing so, in the Received from column enter the name of the customer to whom you received the payments.
For more detailed steps, you can refer to this article: Record and make Bank Deposits in QuickBooks Desktop.
I've got these articles that you can use if you encounter unexpected errors in importing your transactions:

This hasn't resolved my problem. It seems like such a simple one but I can't get a straight answer.
I want to change the received from on the deposit journal to the person that it came from. RIght now the journal entry shows the received from as "company x" How do i change that to be "company y"
Are they two different fields? It doesn't seem to be able to be changed. These were imported deposits but there seems to be a field that is missing. When you change it, the field doesn't change.
What do i have to do to get an answer?
Why can't a name on a deposit journal be changed? It shows up as one name on the deposit which can't be changed and there is no other field that shows to change it.
It is the source name. How do you get to the source name to change it. The name that shows on the deposit ticket and ledger etc but you can't change it because it doesn't come up. I am not using customers to make the deposits.
Thanks for getting back in this thread with additional details, BobbyJ.
I'd like to ask how the deposits were imported? Are they imported directly from Bank Feeds, or through a .qbo file? Either way, imported transactions can be edited as soon as they're accepted in your company file.
The way to edit the the information is by clicking the small drop-down list beside the name of the payee (under the Received From column). Then, select the correct one before clicking Save and close.
Also, Deposit transactions does not a separate name field. This is why payees name are tagged under the Received From column.
If it's reverting back to the old name or not saving at all, please contact our phone support team. They'll take a closer look at this to determine what's causing the issue.
Here's how:
I'll be around if you have other questions. We'll make sure that we get everything sorted out for you.
Hello QBO team,
Chiming in here on BobbyJ's side. You all are making this very hard and missing the extremely simple question that he is asking. I am having the same problem with my bookkeeper. In our case, there is a bank deposit transaction that simply has a wrong value in the NAME field when a standard register/report is printed. However when going to edit the transaction to correct it, the NAME field is not a basic field on the transaction page --- and thus the user doesn't have the ability to make the correction.
This is not an import issue. It may have been a Rule (we have deleted all of ours). It may have been a bookkeeper error when the transaction was reviewed in the Banking interface page. Regardless, at this point, it doesn't matter. Once the NAME field on a transaction is known to be wrong, we are asking how do you correct it.
I've always had to screenshot, delete, and recreate the deposit with the updated name. I just searched again to see if there was a fix for it because you'd think it would be really simple. Nope. I'm dumbfounded by simple issues like this in a software that's over 20 years old. The lack of accuracy on support responses compounds the issue.
Did anyone ended up getting an answer on how to change the NAME field...???
Did anyone ended up getting an answer on how to change the NAME field??
Hi solyperfect,
I'm here to share some information on editing imported transactions and their template.
QuickBooks is only dependent on the information on what you've imported or your bank provided. To modify the NAME field, you'll have to click the small drop-down arrow beside the name (Received From column) and select the correct one. Then, click Save & Close.
If it's not saving with the updated details, I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team. An agent can take a look at your account and verify this issue further.
You can reach out to them through the Help menu.
I've also added this reference to ensure QuickBooks always matches your bank records: Reconcile transactions.
I'm just around whenever you have concerns with the reconciliation process.
I landed on this post because I encountered the same issue...
I could update the name when I opened the "Make Deposits" entry, like in BobbyJ's screenshot, but the other half of the entry still had the name that came on the import and I couldn't find where to change it.... Until I just edited it right in the ledger. Don't open the entry to the Make Deposits screen. Just edit it right in place. I'm on Accountant Desktop 2022, but I also run Premier Contractor and can edit right in the ledger in that version as well. Hope this helps. I just stumbled on this after reading this thread and found no one had anything helpful to offer. I hope it helps...
