A sales order is an order issued by a business to a customer, Pipe3001.

I know how important this feature is to your business. For now, you can follow the workaround provided by my colleagues.

I also suggest sending feedback directly to our engineers. It will help us know how many users want this feature. The more request it has, the more it'll be added to future updates. It's also a way for us to hear your ideas and insights. Just click the Gear icon and select Feedback.

Is there a plan to fix this? 

I bought a small business in March and switched accounting to QBO.  I am completely disappointed in myself for assuming that you had some of the most basic functionality.  Not having Sales Orders is absolutely inept on your companies part.  If I use the ESTIMATE function then I can not create packing slips.  Packings slips are not allowed until invoicing.

PLEASE fix this amazing oversight on your teams part.  In the meantime I am actively exploring other avenues to leave QBO.

I'm going to reignite this conversation. How can we push to have sales orders added to QBO? This is the type of issue that we may have to leave QBO for if it isn't resolved in the near future. Without sales orders, there is no way for product/manufacturing businesses like ours to track our sales pipeline or the costs that go into it. Using "Estimates" doesn't fix the issue, because then you can't use QBO to actually send your customers estimates. We sales orders as an interim step between "Estimates" and "Invoices" to track firm orders received an in process, but not yet billed. 

If QBO can't address this, you're essentially preventing any manufacturing/product based business from effectively using your software. Need action here ASAP.

I hear you and realize the importance of being able to process sales orders in QuickBooks Online. However, this option isn't available on the said platform. 

For now, you make consider utilizing the estimate feature or check for a third-party application that supports this option as suggested by my peers above.

Know that we're constantly considering new features to be added in QBO to cope with your business needs. I'd encourage you to send this suggestion to our developers so this will be assessed.

1. Click on the Gear icon at the top.
2. Select on Feedback.
3. Enter your suggestion.

Same here. Intuit could start just by giving estimates a designated template  for SO

This is crap. The work around with the estimates, is not a work around. Any body doing accounting should know this, especially Intuit. The replies that say to use the estimate has never done any kind of manufacturing or built to order business accounting. You have to use a sales order if you build, or put together any type of products. Even if you are a small sign shop, custom metal working, or an electrical component manufacturer. If you are just a retail store, ya this will work. But, a lot of small businesses make something, not just resell other peoples products. That is really up to the larger companies. If QBO is for the small business, either online or brick and mortar, then it needs a sales order. We have been using QuickBooks Desktop and Enterprise for decades. We would love to switch over to QBO but can't without a sales order that posts. We will have to start looking into other online apps like zoho. I wish Intuit would get there act together. They keep saying they have given this to the develop team. But after years nothing, just the same poor excuses and dribble.

I just joined QB, 2-weeks ago.  I learned today; QB does not have a Sales Order!  This is the absolute stupidest thing, I have ever heard!  As several of the other respondents have outlined, there is an estimate (quote), then you receive the order (booked  business), an acknowledgement is sent to the customer and when the order ships, you invoice (billed business) the customer! 

This is standard procedure in most all businesses.  This is an absolute deal breaker for me!  Some of my order take weeks and months to ship.  How am I suppose to keep track of them, if I cannot enter them in my accounting system?

Since, I just joined; I am going to look to the other programs mentioned in this forum.  

Creating an estimate do not reflect the back-orders as it is done with the Sales Order. 

So it's 2022 and QBO still doesn't have Sales Orders available.  We are switching from Desktop to Online and I can't believe this hasn't been resolved.  We will NOT use a 3rd part app for this, nor will we use an Excel workbook.  It is 2022 for goodness sake! 

Could someone please post an update on getting Sales Orders available.

I need to know if I will stay with QBO or leave. I will leave if QBO does not have this function within 5 months.

Currently, creating sales orders is not yet available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, you can always record an estimate as an alternative entry for this transaction.

On the other hand, we don't receive updates as to when the feature be available in QBO. Rest assured our engineers are working nonstop to enhance the product and deliver the best experiences to all QuickBooks users.

Afaik, we can only find the feature as one of the basic functions available in one accounting app (imho, this app is in the same class as QBO).

without Sales Order feature the entire quickbooks online is incomplete. for us its an important part without which we have to look for other systems which has SO .

Switch to QB Desktop and setup a private cloud solution if required. Otherwise, switch to another cloud based accounting app with the SO feature and purchase a 3rd party conversion service if required.
