Is there a way to get this report to total by account number or at least a summary page?

Thanks for joining this conversation. Allow me to pop in for a moment and share some information about the Journal report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Sorting this report by account number is a wonderful idea! However, this option is currently unavailable in QBDT. I can see how additional functionality in customizing reports would be helpful for both you and your organization and I encourage you to submit feedback.

These requests and suggestions are forwarded to the Product Development Team for consideration in future updates. This will also help them know how option makes your QuickBooks experience smoother. Here's how:

1. At the top menu bar, go to Help and pick Send Feedback Online.
2. Enter your request/product suggestion, then click Next.
3. Choose Skip and send a message and select Feedback as the Category.

How do you run the same report Payroll Journal - for QBO?

QuickBooks Online has also equivalent steps to filter the paycheck journals. I'm happy to walk you through the steps.

1. Go to Reports.
2. Search for "journals" and select it from the suggestion.
3. Click on Customize.
4. Change the date range.
5. Expand the Filter section.
6. In the Transaction Type droplist, choose Payroll check.
7. Click Run Report.

If you do this regularly, I suggest saving your customized report, so you only need to change the date range the next time you need it.

1. Click on Save customization.
2. Name the report as something like Paycheck Journals.
3. Click Save.
    

You will see your list of saved reports in the Custom reports section. You can also check about customizing reports for your additional reference.
