How to set up QBO year end date at the middle of the month? Thank you.
Good day, @dianne. I want to ensure you’ll be able to set up a year-end date according to your preferences so I'll add a few details to help you.
Let’s change your fiscal year or the start of your financial year in QuickBooks. This is because our system understands when your fiscal year ends based on the first month that it starts.
Here’s how:
Furthermore, please also know this will affect the dates in your report. This means the report will display transactions between the months you’ve set within your fiscal year.
On the other hand, it won’t change any data in your account. This implies that the specific date will still show when you’d like to view previous year’s report. You just need to select the dates manually.
I’ve added these resources to guide you with filtering to get the data you need, and saving it with its current customization settings:
For more information on taxes, forms, filings, payroll and other Year End activities, make sure to check out our Year End Resources page.
Just tag my name in the comment section if you have other questions about modifying fiscal year or any other QuickBooks-related concerns. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Stay safe.
How do I set it YE as Jan 15, 2023. It keeps going to Jan 31, 2023
Hi there, jodii07. Allow me to share some details that can help you change your year-end date.
Managing the closing date in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is only available for admin users. Make sure to sign as a primary or company admin to change the year-end closing date. You can follow the steps below:
If you're unable to change it even if you're logged in as admin, you may have too much accumulated historical data causing this unusual behavior. Whenever you visit a website, it saves some information from the web page in its cache and cookies. These files allow the websites you visit most often to load faster. Not to worry, clearing them will do the trick.
First, let's try accessing your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:
Once done, go to your Advanced settings. If it allows you to edit the closing date, I recommend clearing your browser's cache so you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported one.
Also, you'll want to seek some advice from your accountant about closing your books to make sure your data is accurate. If you don't have one, consider subscribing to QuickBooks Live Bookkeeping.
Do you need financial reports? Check this link: QBO Reports.
Keep in touch if you need any more assistance with this or if there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back. Take care and stay safe!
Hello, are you able to actually post screenshots of the solution? Because following the steps, even on incognito mode won't show me the year-end date, only the start date's month. My fiscal year ends on May 23. I'm having to bookmark reports with my fiscal year dates in my browser and it's been annoying...
Thanks
I contacted QuickBooks and they told me you can’t do middle of the month. It only will do it the end of the month. Silly if you ask me. You can change the date on the reports but it makes YEs harder to do.
I hear your suggestion and recognize your need for the feature, @lcv00.
Allow me to share a screenshot of what my peer is referring to:
While we can only set up the first month of the fiscal year, you'll want to raise a suggestion to our Product Development team. This way, they will know how beneficial it is to be able to set a fiscal year-end date rather than picking the fiscal year's first day of the month.
They might add your insights in the latest updates sooner or later. Here's how to create and submit your suggestion:
Once done, you can track feature demands through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.
On the other hand, yes, you're correct @jodii07 that we can customize the date on the reports and set the start date as January 16, 2023, and the end date as January 15, 2024, to get Fiscal year data. You may consider Jodi's workaround for now, @lcv00.
In addition, I suggest checking these articles for more guidance about filtering out specific data from your reports and how to save them in the system:

Hello please tell me there is a solution to this - it's absolutely ridiculous that we can not select specific year end dates. We pay hundreds of dollars in fees a year, this should not be an issue.
I understand your frustration and recognize the importance of having the option to select specific year-end dates in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Jody.
However, the option to do so is still unavailable, and we don't have information on when this feature will be available. To address your concern, I recommend conveying your feedback directly to our Product Developers. They are responsible for considering and implementing new features in future updates. By sharing your feedback with them, you can help them understand the importance of this feature to users like yourself.
