initial misclassification of transaction

I am new to Quickbooks (but not to accounting concepts):
In my initial categorizing (classifying) of bank account transactions, somehow my owner distributions were classified as an "expense." I have tried to correct those and all of them are now "categorized" as "owner investment" transactions. However, they remain "classified (if that's a distinction and the right word)" as "expense." I need them all to be classified as adjustments to equity / reductions to equity, etc.

However, I can find no functionality in any Quickbooks menu item to do that. Nor can I find anything by googling for how to "correct an initial classification in QB" or "correct distribution from expense to equity in QB," etc

Help!

Thanks, Jeff

initial misclassification of transaction

I'd be glad to help correct the classification of your banking transactions, Jeff.

There's an option to Undo an assigned category or classification to a downloaded banking transaction. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to Transactions menu and select Banking.
  2. Proceed to the Categorized tab.
  3. Look for the transactions that you want to recategorize, then click Undo under the Action column. This will remove the assigned categories and will send them back to the For Review tab.

Once done, go back to the For Review tab and assign the correct categories.

Please note that you can only reassign an account or a category. At the moment, there's no option to change a type of transaction if they were downloaded as an expense. You'll need exclude and manually record them as a bank deposit.
