I've created some subclasses that roll up to a "total" class. When I run the P&L, the report shows all classes along with the rolled up total, which is too many columns to see in a report. Is there a way to run a report showing just the rolled up class columns? Thanks!
Let me help you change the columns on the P & L report, superjack1.
We can modify the P & L report and customize the filter section and select the parent class, not the sublevel. Once you have the perfect set of filters, it will save them automatically in the report. Here's how:
Also, you can save this report to keep a hard copy for future use.

Hi AileneA!
When I select a parent class in the report filter, the resulting report still shows all child classes. See attached for the filter I used. Is there something else I should be doing?
Thanks!
Thanks for coming back, superjack1.
I appreciate you for performing the recommended steps provided by my colleague. In this case, we can run the Profit and Loss by Class report to show the parent class or the classes you want. Let me show you how:
Here's an article you can refer to for more details about running reports by class. If the same thing happens, it's possible the browser's cache data is full of frequent access to web pages or is damaged. When this happens, it causes odd behavior when running the report by class.
To better isolate this issue, let's sign in to QuickBooks Online (QBO) using a private or incognito window. This helps us confirm browser-related issues since this mode doesn't use the existing cache data. Let me show you how:
Then, try running the report again. If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. Removing this should fix the issue since the overtime collection of data can create corruption. We can also use supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.
Feel free to visit our Reports page for more insights about managing your company's financial reports.
I'd be happy to hear any updates after performing the steps as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Also if you have questions about exporting reports, please add a reply below. Take care always.
Hello!
I tried the incognito window, and I tried to have a coworker follow the same directions, so it's not my computer. The attached picture shows the resulting headers when I select the parent "G&A" Account. Why does it show both the parent account and the "total" account? My coworker and I were hoping to see just the child accounts rolled up to the parent account, with just the parent account listed.
Thanks again!
Thanks for following up with the Community, superjack1. I appreciate you providing a screenshot of what you're seeing.
You can customize your report to only display classes that you'd prefer to see on it.

Hello!
I finally figured out how to add multiple screenshots to the actual body of text. I was trying to add them to attachments but could only add one at a time.
I have created the below class list to have a few "roll-up" / "parent" accounts. Note that "COGS" has sub accounts "Client Success" and "Operations". These two accounts should roll-up to COGS, and I want to run a report that shows ONLY these parent accounts.
Below is how I customized the PnL By Class report. For purposes of this example, I selected only COGS.
Below is the resulting report. Note that it includes COGS, the two sub accounts, and a "Total COGS". Running the report for all Classes is far too cumbersome. Is there a way to remedy this? I've done all the steps in the prior comments.
Thanks again!
Thanks for getting back to us, superjack1.
My colleagues' suggestions for customizing the filter by class should work. However, if not, I recommend getting in touch with our Support Team so they can investigate and open a ticket to look into this further.

I've been trying to do this for a long time and I still cant do it. When we make recommendations, you guys have to start listening! I'm getting nowhere with QBO improvements. Please find a fix to leave out sub classes in our reports.

When running a Profit and Loss report by Class, it will show all the classes associated with the items. The option to select a specific sub-class to display the information is unavailable. Thank you for the info on how to run the report for different classes. My problem is the Header of the P&L of the individual class does not have the class info, actually there is no place showing the Class info in the P&L. This makes me very hard to tell which class the report is for when I run P&L report for each of the 10 classes. Could you please advise how I can make the Class name shown on the report?
Hello, Christina2024.
I understand the importance of having the option to view the information in the header of the report of individual classes when running a P&L report. Unfortunately, this feature is not available in QuickBooks Online. Our team is continuously working towards improving our services and adding more features for our users. Please share your Feedback with our Product Engineering team, which will help us enhance our products and services. Your valuable Feedback is highly appreciated.

I am trying to run. budget vs actual but have many classes. One that has no sub-classes, one that has 10 sub-classes. I want to run the report to show just the two parent classes.
When I select just the class I want (and not all the sub-classes), all the sub-classes still shows up on the report.
How can I create a report with just the two classes?
Thanks for joining this thread, aspiess. I appreciate your detailed information.
You should be able to run a report for only parent classes and exclude their sub-class data. Initially, you'll need to create a new budget and subdivide it by classes, if you haven't yet.
Here's how:
After creating the appropriate budget, you'll be able to pull it up its Budget vs. Actuals report, then customize it to filter by your relevant parent classes:
I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with budgets and classes which may come in handy moving forward:
