Is there a way to set "SAVE AND CLOSE" as the default action when creating a new invoice? It was previously my default, but somehow (maybe an update?) it has changed.

I’m glad to share some information with you about QuickBooks invoicing, @bexmg.

Once you select Save and close on your current invoice, QuickBooks Online (QBO) will automatically set that option when you create a new one. You may consider this process so the said option will remain.

I recognize how convenient it's for users to set Save and close as the default action when creating invoice transactions. You can use the Feedback feature within your QBO company file to send this idea. This way, our management and engineering teams could take action to help improve your experience.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Feedback.
  2. Enter your suggestions, then select Next.
  3. You'll be provided a list of suggested Help articles related to your comment. You can select Skip and send message.
  4. From the drop-down, choose the appropriate category, then press Send message.
    Capture.PNG

You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

You might want to personalize and add a specific information to your sales forms. Check out this reference for complete instructions: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have additional questions or concerns about invoicing. I’m always here to help. Have a great day ahead!

Hello Madelyn,

Thank you so much for your quick reply.

That is what it used to do---once I chose that option, it remained.  However, it is not

doing that now.  I have to choose SAVE AND CLOSE each time.

Any ideas?

Thanks for coming back here, @bexmg.

I want to make sure the settings in your QBO account is saved. Accessing the account on the regular browser will allow the cache to save site settings or memorize account history.

If you are accessing your account this way, but can't save the changes to the invoice save options, make sure there aren't any third-party apps that will prevent QuickBooks from saving cache.

If you're still getting the same problem, I recommend contacting our Support again. This way our representatives can report this to our engineers for thorough review. Here's how to contact us:

  1. Go to the Help menu in QuickBooks, then choose the Search tab.
  2. At the bottom click on Contact us.
  3. Enter the keyword Account Management and Billing in the What can we help you with? box.
  4. On the next screen, scroll down to How would you like to connect with us section.
  5. Choose Chat with us to initiate a discussion with a live agent.
  6. Enter you account contact information then press Get a chat.
  7. When using this option, make sure to enable pop-up windows. The chat box will appear at the bottom right section of your monitor, and an agent will be with you shortly after. See this:

Please drop by again if you have any other concerns besides this invoice question. I'll be right here to help you anytime. Have a good one!

Hi Jen!

Thank you so much for your answer!!

I just realized I typed my question incorrectly. Forgive me!

My problem is when I'm recording a payment in Qbooks.  After entering the payment type and number,

in the bottom right hand corner my options are (1) SAVE AND NEW or (2) SAVE AND CLOSE.

It used to default to SAVE AND CLOSE and now I have to change it on EVERY invoice because it's

defaulting to SAVE AND NEW.  Is there a way to change that?

Thank you so much!

Yes, you can definitely change that, bexmg

QuickBooks Online has a built-in sticky feature. You'll want to select the Save and close button on your latest transaction. This way, the program will be able to automatically set that option when you create another one.

If the issue persists, you can perform some basic troubleshooting steps. There are times the accumulated cache in the browser becomes corrupted causing this unusual behavior. To isolate the issue, you can try opening your client's account in a private or incognito window. This mode doesn't save cookies and page resources. Here are the shortcut keys:

  • Ctrl Shift for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl Shift for Firefox & Microsoft Edge
  • Command Shift for Safari

After that, try saving and a dummy transaction using the Save and close button. If it's you're able to set it as the default option, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This will eliminate the corrupted junk files so your browser can start over fresh. In addition, you may use other supported browsers to further isolate the issue.

Lastly, here are some articles that you can browse to help manage your invoices and customer payments  in QuickBooks Online:

I'm just a comment away if you have any other concerns or follow-up questions. Stay safe and have a great rest of the day.

I've been having the same problem.  I can open QBO in private mode, clear the cache, etc., and the behavior persists.  It not only occurs during "receiving payments" for invoices, but has also been happening for some other function that I can't remember at the moment - so I'll focus on the former.

It happened initially in Chrome.  Once I read this advice, I cleared the cache, and reloaded the page.  No change.  I went into privacy mode (again, in Chrome).  No change.  I opened QBO MS Edge.  No difference.  I did the same in Firefox.  No difference.

I think there's something beyond our browser behaviors.

I do appreciate your effort in running some steps to isolate what causes the issue, oceanbeachesglass.

I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team so we can check your screen in a more secure environment. This also allows our engineers to make an investigation with regard to your concern.

Also, feel free to pin these references as your guide in managing customer transactions:

Hi Ocean,

Yes I had this happen when posting payments AND when creating a new invoice.  QBO will remember my last entry when creating an invoice (save & close as I have it set) but it will NOT remember when I post a payment. I've tried all the same scenarios as you have.  It's a hassle!!! :(

This is NOT true. I have hit Save and Close 500 times and it never stays. Always goes back to save and new.

Also... when creating an invoice with multiple of the same product, some of them no longer "copy and paste". I can type it in to find the product, select it, go to paste it 5 more times, and it says "create new product" even though I just typed it in and it is in fact a product.

Your updates recently have created bugs. Please fix them.

A Stang,

For clarification, what part of which post is not true?

Also, I've found that entering most anything on an invoice is a little tricky - have to come up with the right combination of "enter" and "tab" to get the item to stay put - unfortunately the procedure necessary is different than from any other fields.  Consistency would be nice.   I haven't tried the cut & paste yet, though.

As was previously asked, what part is "not true"? I was talking about creating an invoice.  That part WAS "ok", as it was defaulting to save and close.  Now at least you have the "save" option, and then on the lower right several more options, "save and close" being one of them.  There's no need to get testy with anyone.  I feel your frustration, as I and others are having it as well. Believe me.

I appreciate any and all replies but let's try to help each other if at all possible.  Thank you all.

That said, QUICKBOOKS PLEASE fix these issues!!!!!!

I have found that to be true as well.  Fields try to replicate when it receives what you are typing, like subjective text, but doesn't always get it right, OR it will not stay put.  First time for me that there have been such issues with Quickbooks, but I've only been using QBO for 6 years now.

I'm having the same issues except mine won't default to SAVE & NEW like it used to! I can sometimes process 50 Receive Payments at a time so its frustrating I can't go straight into the next, I have to change it from SAVE & CLOSE to SAVE & NEW every single time.

I've got you covered, sp73.

May I know if are you trying to save invoices or record a receive payment? That way, we can provide a correct resolution to your concern.

Selecting Save and New to the previous invoice will automatically set that option to default when creating a new one.

We can check if this is a browser-related issue by signing into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) using a private browser (incognito). There are times that the browser is already full of frequently accessed page resources, causing some unusual responses.

Here's how:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P

Once logged in, try to save a transaction again to double-check.

If it's successful, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache to refresh the system. In addition, you may use other supported browsers to further isolate the issue.

Once confirmed and the issue keeps going, I'd recommend communicating with our Technical Support. They have available tools to investigate the main cause of the problem and provide you with another workaround.

Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you on how to set up and transactions: Create recurring transactions in QuickBooks Online. Do come back and keep us posted in dealing with your sales transactions. The Community is always here to help.

There is no point in asking users to contact customer support or clearing the cache.  The problem is on QBO's end.

It was working fine until recently - user could click on 'receive payment', process the payment and click the default 'save & close' button on the bottom right.  The default button is now 'save & new'.  Its very simple, something changed on Intuit's end.

Please dont waste users' time suggesting customer service calls or clearing cache.

Instead - contact the group within intuit that made the changes, ask them to fix it,  and then report back to us and let us know if it is going to be fixed or not.  Please report back asap with an update on what you have found.

Thanks for following this thread, @xx9

I know how convenient it is for your business to keep the Save and new option when creating a new transaction. This feature can save time, and no need to toggle the menu.

I suggest sending Feedback about this feature directly to our engineers for inclusion in future updates. Ideas like this will help us improve the level of service we provide to our customers.

Follow these steps:

  1. Press the Gear icon in the upper right and choose Feedback under profile.
  2. It will open a window where you can enter your product suggestions.
  3. From there, input how you want the program to work.
  4. Click Next to submit it.

For future reference, you can browse through the links below. These resources contain topics that will guide you to manage invoices, payment, and other customer-related activities.

Drop a comment below if you still have concerns about managing invoices and other transactions. I’m more than happy to answer them for you. Have a good one.

that's not what anyone on this thread is asking.   we're asking for it to default to 'save & close', as it always has until recently.

Please stop suggesting feedback submissions.   Instead as the Intuit Employee,  call people within Quickbooks / Intuit & find out what is causing this problem...  and then report back to us and tell us whether or not the company is going to fix it.  DO THE WORK &  FIND THE ANSWER... THEN REPORT BACK TO US.  PLEASE DON'T ASK US, THE CUSTOMERS, TO DO YOUR JOB

Hello xx9!

Our engineers are already aware of this issue.

There's an investigation about the Save and new button that still defaults to Save and Close. I suggest you reach out to our Support Team so that your company info will be included in the case.

  1. Click the (?) Help icon and enter Talk to a human (then type it again when prompted).
  2. When asked by the bot, enter "Save and new button".
  3. Select I still need a human, then proceed with Contact us or Get help from a human.
  4. Choose either Chat or Callback.

In the meantime, you can create a new transaction by clicking the + New button.

I also included some links that can help you in bringing in the bank transactions:

Keep on posting here if you need more help with receiving payments. Take care!

Final comment here.

"Our engineers are already aware of this issue..."

So then there is no reason for intuit reps to tell people to clear cache or make long frustrating calls to customer service.

why bother.

bexmg,

I can't say I have.  The usual process with that is that they'll share your screen to see what's happening, see that it really does happen, then try different things the same as you or I might.  Finally, they'll admit that they have to address it with "someone".  The process requires a fair amount of time, and, as far as I can see, does nothing but verify what we're all saying here.

What's really ironic is that the users in this thread seem to want to use Save & Close, and, instead, Save & New keeps coming up.  I just found another thread where users want to be using Save & New, and Save & Close keeps coming up!!!  Explain that!

AlexV,

As far as I can tell, this thread is about the Save & Close button NOT staying on Save & Close, not the opposite.

I have found the thread that you're referring to, and those users are having just the opposite problem that we are.

It seems you'd be better off locking it on one option or the other - at least you'd leave HALF the users satisfied!

I know right?????  Most of us WANT it back to "SAVE AND CLOSE" and its like we're being ignored.

"Contact support"---blah blah.  That does nothing---glad (and not glad) to see you've had the same experience with that as I have.  :(

Come on QBO! Put it back like it was---OR at LEAST give US the users the OPTION in settings to set it to WHAT WE WANT IT TO BE!!!!  How about that???? That way you could satisfy everyone!!!
