Monthly Profit & Loss

Is there a way to create a P&L to include the previous month using my companies accounting month that is not a calendar month? We follow the 4-4-5 week accounting calendar & need to view months side by side.

We're glad to have you back here, @HBrooklyn. Putting myself in your shoes makes me understand how helpful it would be to create a Profit and Loss (P&L) report that follows your company's 4-4-5 week accounting calendar and compares it with the previous months. Let me share insights about this report and ways to achieve this.

The P&L Report customization you want is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). As a workaround, you can run different P&L reports for each month, and then export them to Excel so you can edit them relating to your company's accounting calendar. Here's how:

  1. On the upper tabs, choose Reports
  2. Pick Company & Financial. Then, Profit & Loss Standard.
  3. Click Customize Report to filter and show the details you want.
  4. To export it, click the Excel dropdown above. Then, choose Create New Worksheet.

After performing the steps above, you can utilize these articles to further understand Profit and Loss, and help you manage it:

Looking forward to interacting with you here again, @HBrooklyn. For questions and updates about how QBDT runs your daily financial operations, please reply to this post. We'll be willing to clear things up for you. Here in Community, you're in good hands.

Thank you Bryan. I have tried using this work around, there is too much manual manipulation needed if the same accounts were not charged each month. Is there an easier way to correct this?

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and adding further clarification about your concern with running reports in QuickBooks Desktop. Let me help you find another workaround to manage your report data using your company's accounting calendar. I'll also ensure you can send feedback so your suggestion or feature you wish to be added is forwarded to the Product Development Team.

For now, there's no other way to manage the said report above and include the data using your company's accounting calendar within QBDT. The steps provided above is the best way to be taken as an option.

I recommend going to the Help icon in QBDT and you're able to enter your product suggestions from there after choosing Send Feedback Online. You can then select the Send Feedback button to submit the request about having the ability to create a P&L and contain the previous month using my company accounting month.

Furthermore, you can also visit our Apps center so you're able to see hundreds of apps that you can integrate into QuickBooks Desktop. This way, it'll help you create the P&L that follows your company's 4-4-5 week accounting calendar and compares it with the previous months.

Lastly, refer to this article if you want the same settings of the customized report to be available for future use: Create, access and modify memorized reports.

Please come back if you need assistance in organizing reports in QuickBooks, HBrooklyn. I'm always here to help you out.

@HBrooklyn  I have attached a sample Profit and Loss (P&L) report generated from QuickBooks data by third-party application using a 4-4-5 week calendar. You may visit this page: https://ledgerscript.com

The sample P&L will not open. I would love to see.

You have to click the download icon to the right of the file name.  Clicking the file name doesn't work for some reason - never has for me.

That worked, thank you!
