So ridiculous, just let us add a line! We've been asking for this feature for almost 4 years now. Nothing screams "We don't value our customers" as you not addressing this issue. Time to start saving invoices and jumping ship I think.
Why can’t we alternate colors on line items also. It is hard for the client to read estimates and invoices. This is an easy problem I would imagine to fix. Desktop version has this!
Because we are their mercy. Doesn't matter how long you complain about something. They just placate you with words like we are working on it , or thank you for your feedback.

Believe me I am looking for an alternative. Quickbook online sucks. The desktop version so was so much more superior. These programs they have must have just graduated.
QBO is the worst software I've ever used. I hope EVERYONE stops using it. just going through this thread is enough to highlight the incompetence and you face at almost every feature of this product. It's garbage from the start and still is years later.
they just did an Update about 1 week ago. mind you last month i was able to add a line without the 0.00 now every blank line has this Stupid 0.00 and something quickbooks will compress spaces and make your Estimate/Invoices looks so junkie with everything jumbled together honestly this SUCKS @$$ your 2019 Desktop version was wayyyy better.
@MikeAllied Have you figured out a solution to this since you posted 3 weeks ago? I'm having the same issue since the update and I hate it! Even if you delete out the $0.00 on the line, it just adds back in when you save the invoice/estimate. I like to use blank lines to add separation between sections, and I like to add section headings or extra notes in the description box between other line items. I hope there is a solution soon but it seems unlikely judging by how many years ago this discussion was started.
Does anyone know if I can remove the 0.00 from black rows in the new format? I used to be able to and would use headers to specify different sections of the proposal, but seem to have lost that ability in the new format.
I'm fighting the same battle, this is crazy. Why does each *update* seem like we lose something really useful, without gaining. How long did it take to get spell check??

To the new posters to this thread, welcome to the party. This simple request has fallen on deaf years for years now, and the new "upgraded experience" just makes it all the worse with our prior workarounds now being unavailable.
We do get the occasional company line about our needing to submit feedback; but trust me, that's a black hole where feedback falls on the same deaf ears.
It seems the coding necessary to make this happen would be very simple. It's just not a priority. Meanwhile, we just keep searching for a better online experience from another company. In time, that could happen.
Another Update to QBO And they Keep Remove Old useful Items and Changing the Layout GEEZ its F'ing Annoying Please revert back to the old Layout so we can Add Blank Spaces Peacefully.
To keep the blank line/row from disappearing when going to print your invoice, put your cursor in the space for description and then press the ALT key and while keeping it pressed, type the number keys 255, then release and save your invoice. You won't see anything in the description space, but when you go to print/download your invoice, you should see that the blank row/line space no longer disappears, but is now visible. Good luck.
