Classic view vs. Modern view onreports

Darn. Some of my clients who have simple start or plus don't have it happening to them (yet, I guess).

Guess my new workaround is throwing my god dam computer out the window.

Classic view vs. Modern view onreports

Hello everyone,

I've read the thread and understand how the recent changes affects you. Please know that the Modern view is still a test feature of QBO. In the meantime, you can manually click the Switch to classic view button when pulling up a report in QBO.

If you're unable to switch between modern and classic views, it might be because of the cache piled up on your browser. That's why my colleague above suggested to clear the browser's cache. By doing this, it’ll remove the built-up cache in your default browser, so you can start with a clean slate. You can also use other supported browsers as alternatives.

See this article to learn more about personalizing reports in the program: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

I'm also adding this guide in case you'd like to save your report's current settings: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Be sure to keep in touch by leaving a comment below if there's anything else I can help you with QuickBooks. I want to you're making the most out of QuickBooks.

This has nothing to do with cache or not being able to click the "Switch to Classic View" button.  If all you had to do was click it 1-time, sure, no big deal.  You have to click it repeatedly, every time you click a transaction in classic view and go back, you are back in Modern view.  And it is literally impossible to get back to the initial report, it just puts you in an endless loop of going back and forth between classic and modern view until you open an entirely new report.  This is the worst update QBO has ever made.

Hi,

I appreciate your reply!

I don't think anyone there is understanding the work. Technologists aren't bookkeepers and accountants after all. When we are working in filing season, confirming that numbers are valid and correcting errors, we will navigate through 6 - 12 reports per minute.

You are proposing, that every time we navigate to a different depth, or from a different perspective, and the system DEFAULTs back to Modern view, that we take the extra time to switch back to classic view. So as an example of how this can balloon quickly; when we are navigating into 26 different payroll journal entries to correct client errors which can't be fixed with a simple AJE, we have to switch back to classic view, manually, 52 times as we go down to the journal entry and back up to the report.

What we are ASKING for is a way to set classic as default because we do not have TIME to TEST your new feature.

If it's a test feature why is it defaulting to it everytime we drill into an expense and slowing everything down? There should be an option to turn it off completely.

I don't appreciate being a guinea pig for your test feature. This is the worst time ever to try new reporting options out. I can guarantee you that with a client that I was working on the last few days it doubled my work time because of this feature. I was trying to quickly scroll through transactions having to go in and out of  large deposit entries to check them and make changes. Every time I came out of an entry it went to modern view and I had to switch to classic and there was a lag time to do it. If I stayed in modern view and opened transactions it would open in a new tab so I would get 6 new tabs in 3 minutes. Then the original P&L tab would lock up and I would have to go through reports in a new tab to get it back. Also, frequently when I tried to use the back to reports button it would just go back and forth between classic and modern view. So again I had to start over again in reports to get my P&L back up. This new feature is a colossal waste of my time.

First post to Intuit ever. The new modern reports view/functionality is absolutely unacceptable. I can't get back to the original report like before. When clicking the classic view, all I get is the view for that one iteration of transactions. Clicking back to report sends me to a different report, or a different date, or accrual when I'm working with a cash report. This is insanity and I feel like pulling my hair out. I am dumfounded that Intuit believed it was a good idea to roll out a piece of garbage programming like this during reporting season. How about you ask your user base to do some testing before you allow your engineers to roll out a piece of junk that works for no one?

I'm sure you're just trying to be helpful.  Unfortunately you must not have read all the comments.  We KNOW we can choose classic view.  Then you choose a transaction to review and it flips right back. This is talking precious time away.  STOP filling out these unneeded improvements before they're tested and ready.  I'll guarantee there are more accountants wanting you to fix the W9 fiasco that's been going on for years, than have asked for a new look on the reports. Do your developers actually TALK to any accountants before they do this stuff?!.

QB Team - Please tell me you guys can find a way to scrap the modern view.  It's one of the worst product "upgrades" I've ever seen.  I keep having to go back to the reports screen and start over just to see simple reports I've been running for many months.

It's hot, stinky garbage that needs to be thrown out.  Good day.

We don't want to SWITCH between views.  We want the classic view as the default.

I also want to join in to let Intuit the Modern View is not efficient at all and makes drilling down at the transaction level way more difficultly than it should be. definitely hope they have add an option to default to classic view.

This does not fix the problem. Please get rid of the test mode with Modern Viewing. I am in tax season and this is not the time for trying something 'new.'

This does not work. Now I have extra steps to logging on apps on my computer because I cleared my cache. AND Quickbooks is still switching to Modern View. Everytime I drill into a transaction on a report it opens in Modern View. I can't make the changes I may need in Modern View.  This has been an issue for over 2 weeks, according to this comment thread, WHY hasn't Intuit taken off the test mode on this issue? WHY would you try something new anytime from January through April?

I know you prefer to use the old form on the reports page in QuickBooks Online, @Tami110. I'll lay out some insights about this topic.

QuickBooks updates the option and view for a better and more convenient experience while using it. We are aiming to provide the best service while navigating the accounting system.

We can also try to open another report if this new form appears to be a different report you pull up. If it shows the same, I suggest sending our developer feedback. This way, they can consider bringing back the old form in the reports section.

Follow the steps below:

  1. You can go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Profile column, press the Feedback button.
  3. Write your product suggestion, then click Next.

Furthermore, our Product Development team receives your thoughtful comments (QBO) through the feature request tracking QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

To learn more about using QuickBooks Online, managing your account, and handling invoices and subscriptions, see this article for additional references: Manage billing, payment, and subscription info in QuickBooks Online.

There you go, @Tami110. I'm excited to provide more information on any Quickbooks-related topic. Please add it in the comment section. May you have a great day.

Hey Tami110:

Since these Intuit employees are acting like a bunch of mindless bots, I'll translate what she said:

1. yadda yadda yadda, you can do something different if you don't like it.

2. Submit some "feedback" to us because we have all the time in the world to read THOSE posts instead of posts like this in this thread.

3. yadda yadda yadda, here's some things I was told to copy and paste below my unhelpful responses that give absolutely no one any information they need to fix the problem.

Have a great day using a product that is making things harder for you! Make sure you like, subscribe and share for more content!

Sincerely,

Intuit.

We're rich and you're not; deal with it.

The "feedback" links (both in the report itself and in the gear icon) do not work. They lead to blank pages (Yes, my cache is clear and I have tried to do it on 3 different computers)

I am never going to forget this experience for the rest of my professional career. (I still have many decades ahead.) When a new business client asks me, "Hey, what do you think about QBO?" - I am going to be so honest about this experience.

I refuse to mindlessly click unnecessarily on report screens when 1 click would have had me to the information that I needed without having to charge anyone additional money. We all spend way too many hours during filing season away from our families, our passions and our sanity to test new features that "enhance our user experience."

For free!? No.

Someone is going to pay me for that time.

I will be able to charge anyone for the additional "enhanced experience" time after sharing this cautionary tale and, should the developers decide that, as an example, in the future, it would "enhance my user experience" to make me retype my password for security precautions every 5th screen change. I warned you this might happen Mr. / Mrs. Client. It's 2023 all over again. I have to charge you for the additional time it is taking for the enhanced user experience.

This is the last time I am going to post about this here as I can see that the responses from the "QBO Team" are just pied, on-message pandering and not any real meaningful attempt at assistance. (Yet another observation I will most definitely share with future business clients.)

I am so disappointed in this entire debacle.

bwahahahaha!!!  Thank you for that response.  Spot on.  I've wondered a thousand times if they've actually ever worked in QBO or not.  I'm going with no.  "Go to a different report"................Eureka!  Why didn't we think of that?  (Insert heavy eye roll) If only the problem had anything to do with the report.

What aggravates and concerns me the most is apparently NO ONE at intuit is bothering to look in the "community" to find out how people are enjoying their useless enhancements that don't really work.

I am using the app.  Can you clear the cache in app?  I cleared Google, but not using the web browser.

This is exactly true.  You are very correct.  And, even when you get to the Classic View and click on a transaction to look at it and go back it will go back to the Modern View and will not even go back to the report you were on, and the date will switch back to the default date.

dougman77

You got that right.  Have the Classic View as the default.  If someone wants Modern View then go for it.  I don't.  I pay for Advanced and I want what I want.

Yes, you can switch to Classic View.  I get this. MAKE THE CLASSIC VIEW THE DEFAULT, AND THE MODERN VIEW AN OPTION IF SOMEONE WANTS IT.
