I am looking to be able to create the P&L Budget Performance Report in QBO and it does not exist. However, it does exist in QB Desktop. Any ideas as to why it is not an option in Online and how to get Quickbooks to make it available? Thanks in advance!
Hello, NancyVining.
I can provide information about the Profit & Loss report that you'd like to pull up in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Currently, the ability to filter the Profit & Loss report by account is unavailable in QBO. However, you can manually export the report to Excel and customize it from there as a workaround.
Here's how to do it:
I can see how having this option would be helpful for you and your business. I highly suggest sending feedback directly to our product developers. They are always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QBO.
Here's how to submit feedback:

Thank you, but that export to excel is not what I am looking for. That would require me to manually add a column with the annual budget every single month by line item. Very time consuming for me. I will send a suggestion to the developers. I'm not sure why this wouldn't be an option in Online. All nonprofits, churches, etc need the ability to see this information monthly.
I was able to create two reports in QBO one for the current month and one for the YTD total. I exported both to excel. I was then able to easily copy and past the YTD total onto the current month. Still annoying that this report is not yet available in QBO.
I used this report every month in QBD. Disappointed that QBO is missing so many things from QBD.
Our church has used this report in QBD for many years. Please consider adding to QBO. I thought QBO would save us time, but so far that isn’t the case.
I completely understand your disappointment with the current situation, CSL53. Allow me to provide insights about generating reports in QBO.

So glad I saw this! I've got three clients and have been investigating a possible change to QBO. We use this report all the time for all three clients. QBO is missing so many things. : (
Please make this report available - for all of us who have changed from desktop to online it is devastating to not have it avail. The work around is truly not an affective solution!

Adding to the discussion here. I also have struggled to work with QBO in this one regard, I need a P&L Budget Performance Report.
I'm not sure why it's hard to give us what we had in QBD. I have been able to create a P&L report, and even a statement of financial activity report that would suffice, except it won't show budget line-items that have not had activity within the timeframe of the report. So a budget line that is only used a few times a year, won't show up until something is charged to that line. Making one of the points of the Budget Performace Report (what hasn't been spent...) a non-starter.
If I include inactive lines, it includes every deleted and inactive lines from years prior.
If there was a fix to this active/inactive line then i could maybe make the other reports work.
And...the excel option is crazy. I'm making line-specific reports for 10+ employees monthly.
I know that having a Profit and Loss Budget Performance report is significant for you, @jd76cliff.
As of now, the specific report you're looking for is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
