Non of the fixes proposed worked. The problem is a glitch in the Quick books software. In searching for a solution I re installed the software did not fix, I deleted the invoice and re constructed it did not work I deleted the customers and started over did not work.
As a test i reprinted an invoice from another customer and it previewed and printed perfectly. Repeated this with several other invoices and all worked as they should. Went back to the problem invoice to determine the difference. The only variant was that the problem invoice was a progress invoice. All the working invoices were 100 percent invoices. I still was able to invoice for a partial percentage but by using the the (copy2 product invoice) it printed perfectly.
Using the Intuit Progress invoice it again tried to preview or print thousands of pages. It would appear at least on my computer that the progress payment form has a problem.
Thanks to all who tried to help. But it appears to be a glitch but the work around fixes it so I am good to go.
Thank you for coming back and for sharing what you've tried, CNCKitMill.

Thanks but I have working well enough to print my invoices intuit can work on fixing the software glitches on their own time I already wasted too many hours solving this. have a great day
I had this happen to me out of the blue, and it wasnt until i realized that i was using a freshly modifed layout for my purchase orders. What i did was to open the layout designer, and deleted the existing logo graphic, then cut and paste a new logo over the same spot. not how its done apparently, and when i tried to print, it kept going for thousands of pages of garbage. it even hung up my windows explorer, as i was trying to find the pdf file it was creating, and eventually i killed the task and found a 42 MB file in that location.
Anyway, i tried again, changing the logo from the main selection screen (not the layout designer) and it worked just fine.
