Which QB Desktop year version did you use? If you don't need to run any add-ons (e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment), you can use QB Desktop with a non subscription license.

I use a Mac, Ventura OS and want to upgrade to Sonoma, but every time I have upgraded in the past Quickbooks does not function

I absolutely cannot afford the QB online.   I cannot believe how much this costs.  The QB 2020 I purchased on sale at Best Buy for $300.

The $970 per year online is ridiculous.

It is called TopQuickbooks and they call themselves an Intuit QB Partner.  Do you think this is legit?  I have been wondering what all the small businesses like me are doing to find an affordable system which keeps my old records intact.

 I realize Intuit wants everyone to switch to online, and they are making it very hard to purchase the updated Desktop.  Although the last I contacted QB, they had discontinued Desktop.   Which they also did a few years ago but many of us protested and it became available again as Desktop

Is this what is happening again?

Or, another alternative, can I still use QB 2020 for Mac when I upgrade to Sonoma, or will it not work?

@JoesemM  I think what @Homespun and others (including myself) are looking for is a non-subscription option for QB Desktop.  I would love to upgrade my QB Desktop Pro 2021 without having to do a subscription.

As it is now, it doesn't make sense for my small company to pay $90 per month (or whatever) to continue using QB.

@Deity Alpha- Good question.  2021 works fine, except as of the end of May 2024, Intuit cut of support for bank feeds for v. 2021.  I can't import my credit card bills from my bank, which means entering them by hand.

You can use the importer tool as a workaround. It's $199 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase it via a partner.

You can still run QBD 2020 on Sonoma. Make sure you don't be tempted to upgrade to Sequoia.

I looked at this link and found a way too expensive fee.  Can't remember but something like $700 a year.

My needs are very basic.  I just need to track income and expenses and put them into categories and reconcile bank statements

QB Desktop 2020 is outdated, By default Intuit Support will say that it does not support Sonoma. But keep in mind, they only read scripts and have no real experience about it. If you want to be sure, it's best to contact Fiat Lux as I mentioned before. They will provide honest reviews and updates. If you decide to purchase a new license, you can also get a cashback.

Is there anyone who can tell me how to purchase a QB like I have in the past for a one time fee under $400 that will be good for a few years?

I have been using QB for Mac 202 for 4 years.  I do not need any fancy features, but I do need to reference my old records going back 20 years.

My business is VERY SMALL!  No employees, and about 15 subcontractors and 50 - 75 customers per year

I absolutely cannot afford the smallest subscription of $900 per year.

The QB rep told me I could get a desktop version for $650, but the is good for just one year.  And the prices increase every year by about $100

Thanks for the response, but it looks like no one is able to answer my question about making an affordable version of QuickBooks.

Again, I’m just one person and I don’t have the funding to pay these incredibly high fees compared to the old desktop versions of QuickBooks, which has been working beautifully for 20 years for me
