Good morning,
How do I enter corrections for sales tax? This is the story:
#1 issue:
November 2021 sales tax was paid late--paid January 2022. A penalty of $2,000.00 was imposed. I paid the sales tax and the penalty, totaling $4,200.00. In the meantime, I requested from the state agency a waiver of the penalty which was subsequently granted--$2,000.00. How would I adjust this in QBs?
#2 issue:
I am now paying December 2021 sales tax. The total liability summary report shows the November 2021 sales tax --$2,200.00 PLUS the December sales tax. I'm guessing the November is showing up because it was paid in 2022(?). Along with this, a customer just informed me that 2 invoices sent to him are NON TAXABLE. Customer HAS NOT paid any part of these 2 invoices. Problem: I've already paid the sales tax for November (see above). What is the proper way to make the sales tax adjustment for the tax I will pay for December--make adjustment of the total sales tax on the 2 invoices?
Your guidance is appreciated.

It was very vague and I had already been to the Sales TAx adjustment site. ...I was hoping for a little more detail rather than your canned response, considering I provided detail.
Hello again, FMW.
When it comes to adjusting sales tax, I recommend seeking help from your accountant or tax expert. They can provide detailed steps to avoid any issues when a tax audit comes. If you don't have an accountant, you can find one through this link: Find an accountant.
