Welcome to the Community, @osq_lee.

Let me provide some insights about the Customer's Transactions List and help you from there.

The Customer's Transactions List will only show sales transactions, such as invoicessales receiptspayments, and deposits. Thus, journal entries won't show on that dashboard.

You can consider running and customizing the Transaction List by Customer report to show all the created journal entries for that customer.

Here's how:

  1. Click Reports from the left menu.
  2. Search for Transaction List by Customer.1.PNG
  3. In the Report period section, select the date range of the journal entries.
  4. Click the Customize button.2.PNG
  5. Go to the Filter section, then select Journal Entry from the Transaction Type drop-down.
  6. Select Run report.3.PNG

I'm adding this article for more details: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

Just in case you want to memorize this report, feel free to check out this article for more guidance: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you need clarification about this, or there's anything else I can do for you. I'll be standing by for your response. Have a great day and keep safe.

If donations is an income account, what is dues?

did you select the customer name for each entry to dues?

Much easier to just write a check to each customer, and use a refund income account

Dues is also an income account.

Our acct recommended doing journal entries. I had about 100 to do. In the journal entry page, I can put a "Name" which seems to point to my customer list. The journal entries do what I want them to do, but the transactions do not show up under the customer.

Thank you for this very in-depth explanation! This would be a great report to use. I have also created reports for just Membership dues. And, I've also created a report for Individual Contributions. I am able to see my original membership dues payments per customer and their subsequent journal entries, as well. I'll create your report just to double check myself. But, I was a little disappointed to not see journal entries when looking at my customers. I wonder if that is something that can be requested as an enhancement.

Thanks again! Lee

Hi there, Lee.

I appreciate you for considering the Transaction List by Customer report suggested by my colleague above. The said report will help us generate the journal entries for each of our customers. I can see that you've been putting more effort into customizing this report, so we'll be able to get these things possible.

We can fix it by performing basic troubleshooting steps since selecting the correct dates, and setting the Journal Entry as a type of transaction didn't do anything to this. Here are the things that we can try on:

  1. We can start refreshing your browser clicking the Reload icon or press F5 on your keyboard.
  2. Use a different browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. It's a way to verify if the error is caused by having too much data in our browser.
  3. If everything works fine, that would be the time that we can clear the cache to help QuickBooks run better on your computer.
  4. The other option is to use the supported browser in QBO.

Please give me an update on how these go. I want to make sure that you're good to go. Stay safe, and be well!

Hi again. So, here's a strange thing. I created the report above "Transaction List by Customer" for this fiscal year (7/1/2019-6/302020).  Group: None. Filter: Transaction Type: Journal Entry & Refund. Customer: All. Then I go to the "little gear" in my report and DON'T check "Customer." I get below.

(The refunds are actual checks that were cut to members). Because I bundled the journal entries as per the last names of our members (see 3rd column of journal entry name, CV19-AB), I don't see the individual customers who got their pro-rated dues converted to donations.  I only "see" the higher level entry. If I click on, for example, CV19-AB, this is what I will see:

The names are good in the rightmost column that I cut off for privacy. So, my question: is this the best I can do for this? Or, am I missing an obvious step to report on everything in one place...

Thanks for your patience...Lee

Hello, @info978.

Thanks for providing detailed information about the process that you performed

I've also replicated it on my QuickBooks Online account using the Transaction List by Customer and filter the Journal Entry.

Since you bundled the journal entries as per the last names, it will only show the higher level entry and that's how the Transaction List by Customer works in QuickBooks Online it also depends on how you customize the report.

For additional information on how to run basic reports in QuickBooks and how to print, email, and export reports see this article: Run reports. It also provides other report features that might help in the future.

I've added this article that might help you navigate your account in QuickBooks:  Reports and accounting.
