Unable to export to Excel

I just upgraded to Office 2021, not realizing Quickbooks was not up to date.

It is now 2022 and understandably Office 2021 was released in October, but I would expect the 2022 version of Quickbooks to be compatible with Office 2021.

I am NOT going to back out this upgrade as it is on 10 machines.  The cost alone does not provide justification to back it all out.

Do I need to find a replacement to Quickbooks?

When will this incompatibility issue be resolved - 2025?

Unable to export to Excel

I am also having trouble exporting a report to Excel, I am using Enterprise 20., I am trying to export the open invoices report to excel. I get the blue circle of death and have to end task as QB's is not responding. I can export other reports and was able to export this report twice 2 days prior but not since. I have spent hours on the phone with Intuit trying to fix but to no avail, can anyone help me with this?

Unable to export to Excel

Hey there, @bookkeeper352

I'll share additional troubleshooting steps to help you export your reports to Excel.

Let's start by updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. This keeps your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then select the Update QuickBooks Desktop tab.
  2. Switch to the Update Now tab. You can select the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  3. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  4. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  5. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

Then, open QuickBooks and try exporting the report again. If you're still getting the same result, check out our QuickBooks system requirements. Each version of QuickBooks Desktop works with specific versions of Microsoft Office. You can review the system requirements for your version of QuickBooks: 2018201920202021.

In case your Excel version isn't compatible with QuickBooks, you'll need to upgrade to the supported one.

If you're using a compatible version, repair your Office application to fix the problem. Then, go back into QuickBooks and export a report.

As an additional solution, you can also toggle your Windows UAC settings on and off. This should reset anything blocking the export feature.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu. Type User Account Control Settings into the search and open User Account Control Settings.
  2. Select and move the slider to Never Notify. Then select OK.
  3. Restart your computer.

You can also uninstall and reinstall your QuickBooks Desktop and Excel application to refresh their settings and configurations. For your reference, suggest checking out these links:

Additional details about exporting reports are also discussed here: Export Reports As Excel Workbooks In QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know how it goes by clicking the Reply button. The Community Team got your back. Have a great day!

Unable to export to Excel

I tried all the steps below, as I said I can export other reports, just not the "open invoice" report, I was able to export it twice a few days ago, but have not been able to export since, QB's goes straight to "not responding" and I have to end task to get out of if. I tried on two other computers to no avail, it's like there's a memory blocking it that needs to be cleared.

Unable to export to Excel

Hi,

These steps are a waste of time and risky based on MS Licensing.

The problem has nothing to do with the installation of Office OR QB, it is 100% QB integration.

I am somewhat disappointed in the responses from Intuit regarding a time frame for resolution.

MS is kind of a big company as is Intuit.  To not have a coordination or reasonable answer is disconcerting with regard to the focus of Intuit and QB.  Functions and features are extremely important but limiting integration points to Older versions of a product is unacceptable.  I went from Office 2010 to Office 2021 with the expectation of a seamless connection to Excel....sadly not the case.  I do understand there is a time period to ensure that integration point is validated and tested, but to get a Scripted answer to solve a problem that is a waste of time and WILL not work based on compatibility issues is NOT right!!!  Also, a more definitive answer than 'We don't know' makes me wonder if there is any kind of outline or roadmap to the development, enhancement and maintenance of the product.

THIS!!!! I have tried every "fix" listed here to absolutely no avail as well as been on a call multiple times trying to fix this.  When I had a lady that seemed like she was able to help, we were disconnected and I did not have her contact info nor did she reach back out to me.  Very very disappointed with this whole thing.  We have several other users in our office that have zero problems with this, but they cannot seem to fix the one that does have problems.

I have the same scenario.. I can't export my quickbooks memorized reports to excel in the xlxs format, like I have always been doing until I upgraded Office 365.

Unable to export to Excel

I was able to export my reports to Excel just fine three days ago. I went in yesterday to export a report to Excel and all the options for Excel were greyed out. I didn't make any updates to my computer in that time frame. When I spoke with the Intuit help desk I was told that I would have to upgrade my Quickbooks to 2022 in order to get any assistance.

I think they may be pushing this issue through the program in order to force people to upgrade their software. I have 2021, so it's not an old version. I will be looking at other software if I can't find a fix in the next week. I am a small business that uses QB a few times a month because my business is not an accounting business. It's not worth the $350/year cost to me when I use it 2 times a month.

I understand how important it is to be able to export your reports to excel from QuickBooks Desktop. Let me help and make sure this issue gets resolved.

Before we start, make sure to update your QuickBooks to the latest release. This ensures that QuickBooks works in its optimal mode.  You can follow the steps below to do this manually:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Click on Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to Update Now tab. You can select the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  4. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  5. Once the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  6. When prompted, select Install Now to install the updates.

It's also best to check the system requirements since each versions of QuickBooks only works with specific versions of Microsoft Office. If your version of Microsoft Office isn't compatible with your QuickBooks, you'll need to upgrade. You can use this link as your guide: How do I upgrade Office?

If it doesn't work, I'd recommend following this link from Microsoft for the steps to repair an Office application.

If the issue still persists, you can uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks Desktop. Microsoft Office and Excel need to be installed on your computer before you install QuickBooks.

I wanna make sure I got you covered. Please leave a comment below and let me know how it goes. I'll keep an eye on your response. Have a great weekend!

Please post what you find.  I've been actively looking for a couple years, and there's really nothing out there, and almost all that there =is= is cloud-based and, usually, more expensive than QB.  :-(

Unable to export to Excel

Hi,

My issues was as a result of my upgraded from MS Office 2010 to MS Office 2022.  MS was discontinuing support for 2010 so I upgraded which was a very expensive proposition (10 versions of the software).  I do not use SaaS versions, I like my own local copies and do not use the cloud.  Similarly with QB.  In any case, I am running 2022 - I do have a subscription with them but I have a local copy only.  I was shocked they were incompatible with Office 2022 which was my issue.  Miraculously, within a day of my post, it POOF started to work.  I suspect there is a millennial somewhere at Intuit who does not have a clue how to QA and/or test a release.  I my world, they would have been fired for incompetence.  At this point, my issue was with an Office upgrade and not a QB upgrade.

as a side note, in posting my response, I had to sign into Intuit with my Password OR a Text.  Even when I put in my password I had to get a text for verification.  In general this company is pretty messed up.  They are not alone, so many companies today do not communicate internally and they have multiple people working on the same initiatives without any coordination.  Thus the issues you are having and I had....for now I am good, hopefully I will not have any more issues going forward.

There are so many impractical features in QB's particularly in reporting - ie not allowing a FULL comment from a time card to be reported.   Very odd.  Clearly no one is really looking at the reality of the functions in place within the software.

Unable to export to Excel

We are experiencing this issue with a brand new computer, new install of Office Home and Business 2019, and the latest version of Quickbooks Enterprise.

We've tried the regedit fix, installs/reinstalls, user access control, modifying Excel options.... The recommended 'fixes' from Quickbooks - for two years(!) are time consuming and don't work.

The copying and pasting of the forum administrators of the same 'fixes' are insulting.

I'm 100% certain there is a good developer at Intuit who could fix this. Why hasn't this happened? What a complete waste of time.

Unable to export to Excel

Hi There,

I'm a Managed IT Provider and we had a customer experience this same issue. Quickbooks Enterprise 22. Office 2019 Pro Plus retail. Brand new computer. We tried everything mentioned in this long thread. What ultimately ended up solving the problem for this client was downloading the Microsoft SARA tool https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC to uninstall Office 2019. Then running it again after the required reboot and telling it to remove all versions of Office. I then uninstalled QB. Reinstalled 2019. Updated 2019. Installed QB. And problem solved. Hope this helps!

Unable to export to Excel

This is what finally worked for us to get the excel options to come back so we could "create new worksheet".

Environment:
Windows Server 2019
Windows Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
QuickBooks 2022

1. Used Microsoft SARA tool to uninstall office.

https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC

2. Uninstalled all QuickBooks versions including anything named "QuickBooks"

3. Deleted the "Intuit" folder from these locations (I didn't rename the QuickBooks (year) to .old)

C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks (year)
C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks (year)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks (year)

4. Deleted all the QuickBooks "years" within the Intuit folder per user.

C:\Users\(current user)\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks (year)

5. Re-installed Office + reboot. Re-installed QuickBooks + reboot. Completed all QuickBooks updates + multiple reboots

Not sure what exactly fixed it as I've used the SARA tool before. The only thing I did differently was step 3 and 4.

The coders at Intuit should take a few classes from Steve Gibson (Gibson Research) about writing elegant code and learning how to clean up after themselves when installing a program or updating it.  Leaving "trash" around is what screws up a =lot= of installs and just forces the user to either clean it up or dump that program altogether and seek out an alternative.

What's great about this, and the 'fix', is that it's not permanent. I was able to fix this by uninstalling both Office Home and Business 2021, and Quickbooks, but unfortunately the issue came up again. Either Office or Quickbooks likely had an update and the 'fix' was nullified. So now I'm uninstalling everything again, and reinstalling again.

This is the solution that worked for me as I reinstalled a desktop version of QB2021 on a new computer. Microsoft Office Repair is the solution. No other solution worked.

Thanks for joining the thread, @gkeallen.

I'll ensure to provide the troubleshooting steps so your accountant can export the report to Excel.

In QuickBooks, there should be an option for your accountant to export reports to Excel. To fix the issue, you'll want to let your accountant update its QuickBooks software. This process ensures QuickBooks works in its optimal state. Visit this link for guidance: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

If the issue still exists, let your accountant change the Windows User Account Control (UAC) Settings. Since UAC is used to protect your system from unwanted threats suspects QuickBooks and its related processes as a threat to Windows security and blocks some or all of the actions performed by the user in QuickBooks. Disabling it will help resolve the error. See the steps below:

  1. Go to the Windows Start button and search UAC.
  2. Select the Change User Account Control Settings option and change the settings to Never Notify.
  3. Hit the OK button and restart your Windows.
  4. Then, export a form or report from QuickBooks in Excel format and check if the error is resolved.

Moreover, you'll want to consult an IT professional since it's an Excel issue. That way, they can check if the problem is within the accountant's windows.

I'm also attaching these articles for future reference in managing Accountant's copy in QuickBooks:
