I am looking for a way to get the where used (in assemblies) information in a report format. If I can't get the information directly through a QuickBooks report I am open to using an app. Does anyone know of a way to get this information?
Hey there, @brandytanny.
Currently, the option to get the Where Used (In Assemblies) information in a report format is unavailable. Meanwhile, we can get the info from the Item List page.
Here's how:
I also suggest checking for a third-party app that will work closely with your QuickBooks data files to provide features that your business needs, including the Where-Used report. Just head to the Apps for QuickBooks Desktop website and search for a keyword.
I've attached an article you can use to modify item reports to help you keep track of your inventory: Customize item reports.
Don't hesitate to click the Reply button if you have follow-up questions. Have a great day.
You may explore an inventory management app to integrate with your QBD.
Thank you. I did find that option in my google search. Have you used that program before?

Hi All -
QuickBooks Team, can this report be offered in the next software update?
This information is extremely important. Why isn't this already a report?
Let me help with your question about this specific report,Dav.
A report version or format of Where Used (In Assemblies) is still not available in QuickBooks Desktop.
Although, there are third-party apps in the Intuit Marketplace that can help with the Where Used (In Assemblies) report. You can go to this link to search for accredited apps:
https://desktop.apps.com/home.
I'd also suggest sending a product suggestion about this to our product engineers Product suggestions and feature requests are collected and reviewed for future updates. Here's how you can send it in QuickBooks:
In the meantime, let me share a couple of articles for guidance and reference when running reports in QuickBooks:

Hi QuickBooks Team -
Do you know if QuickBooks will have this report available soon?
What is the status on creating this report?
Hi there, @Dav.
Thanks for following up with us.
At this time, the report is still not available. We understand the importance of having this report become available. Please know that our Product Development takes all feedback requests into consideration for future updates.

I'm using Quickbooks Manufacturing 2022 and I can't access the Where Used In Assemblies function. The function is there but it is grayed out. What could cause that and how do I fix it?
Hi there, premiershield2023.
I'll make sure you'll be able to access the Where Used (in Assemblies)function in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
You'll have to make sure the Advanced Intory Settings are turned on from the List menu. This way, you'll see the Where Used (in Assemblies) function.
Here's how:
1. Go to the List at the top menu bar.
2. Select Items & Inventory from the left menu.
3. Click on the Company Preference tab.
4. Select Advanced Inventory Settings.
I've additionally included a few detailed resources about working with inventory assemblies that may come in handy moving forward:
Keep your post coming if you need more help with inventory assemblies. Have a great day!
I received your response but I'm having trouble locating the menus you mention. I'm using 2022 Desktop Manufacturing. Does that make a difference?
Hi QuickBooks Team, @Tori B -
I'm just checking in on this long-standing request by many users:
Can a Where Used report be offered in the next software update?
This request has already been submitted to the QuickBooks Development Team many times.
Are there any status updates from QuickBooks when this will be a report (printable and downloadable)
within Quickbooks?
Hi there, @Dav.
I can see the urgency of this matter and how important this is. As much as I'd like to help you get through this situation, we currently don't have a turnaround time on when this option will be available inside the program.I'd recommend sending a separate request to our Product Development.
After they see your feature request, they'll consider it for future program updates, and you'll get a notification once it's implemented. Here's how:
Moreover, you can check this article to help you keep your current report settings: Create, access and modify memorized reports.
Once again, it's been a pleasure to have you today. I'll be here if you need assistance accomplishing specific tasks inside QuickBooks. Don't hesitate to leave a comment below. Take care, and have a nice day!
It might help those waiting for QB to implement this or other reports or functionality to understand that Intuit is not a software development company. It is a marketing and sales organization with staff dedicated to maximizing revenues from existing and new customers - thus the non-stop advertising pop-ups plaguing each new release.
So the majority of new functionality comes from acquiring small emerging developers that develop all the new innovative features add to Intuit's Frankenstein collection of add-ins.
QB internal software folks are largely tasked with fixing software bugs identified by their extensive testing team - FYI, that would be you and all the other customers 'testing' Intuit's software and reporting bugs. Intuit's internal test team and effort is minimal given all the free testing they have customers perform after each new release.
Don't hold your breath for Intuit software engineers to get around to adding the basic reporting functionality.
They are working on the building out the next blizzard of spam advertising embedded in the next desktop release LOL.
In the meantime for this particular functionality, take screenshots of the where used in assemblies pop-up report, print those out and manually type them back into Excel or Word....

Just shoot me now. It's 2024. There must be a way.
