Glad to have you back, @mark149.
Allow me to provide some clarifications about the difference between QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed.
QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed are two different platforms. QBO is used by business owners to help them with their accounting needs such as creating customers, vendor's transactions, and running payroll for employees. The ability to customize the invoice template is available in this program.
On the other hand, QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) is an application that is intended for the freelancers or independent contractors in any field. This helps you separate business and personal expenses as well as identify Schedule C deductions. The option to customize your sales transaction isn't available in this plan.
If you want to utilize a customized template for invoices in QBSE, you may check out for a third-party application that supports this functionality.
