i am at a loss for words. My client uploaded new data from her bank account and somehow the WHOLE entire account history got deleted !!! Now it is starting with a beg balance as of 1-1-2020 and I have to enter in ALL the 2020 transactions AGAIN and reconcile AGAIN!!
Has anyone ever had this issue? I am getting NOWHERE with tech support even had a case # and never got a call back.
Hi @JenPollock,
This must be a challenging experience for you, and I personally want to get this resolved for you.
Please know that bank accounts with transactions cannot be deleted. Instead, the system will make it inactive and retain all the data of the account. In your case, you don't have to reenter all the transactions from 2020 and reconcile them again. All you need to do is to reactivate the deleted account so you can get back to working order. Here's how:
Once done, all of the transactions from that bank account will show, and you don't have to reenter them.
Just in case you want to learn more about categorizing and matching transactions in QuickBooks, you can read this article for more guidance: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Dear Mark,
I SOOO appreciate your response. I too thought this would be a solution. But the account (indeed there are two accounts that have that same name) that may have been 'deleted/inactivated' has around transactions in it. And the 'new' account we are assuming was created also has no transactions except for the beg balance that was created by QB.
I find it confusing that the team members I spoke to did not even suggest this idea. I thought of it myself as I was on hold for a loooong time...
If you have any other ideas feel free to share.
Are you a QB employee or a freelance accountant?
I shared a screen shot of a duplicate account that has been inactivated but it has a handful of transactions. It is a mystery to me. Since 2013 this account has been fully active with THOUSANDS of transactions.
Thank you again for giving my problem the attention!!
Thanks for coming back, JenPollock.
I appreciate the time and effort you've spent with one of our support agents. I'll personally share your feedback with our Customer Support Team regarding this one. We'll be able to take action on improving our customer service. QuickBooks Online (QBO) records the following in the audit log:
If the bank account or the transactions are deleted in QuickBooks Online (QBO), the option to restore it is unavailable. However, we can access the Audit Log to recover the details of the deleted ones so you can re-enter them. Here's how:
If there are transactions for that bank account deleted in the Audit Log, it would be best to contact our Customer Support Team. I know you already called but since this is a public forum, they can pull up and check your account in a secure environment. Then, provide the case number to the support agent for them to know your issue right away since you already contacted us.
You may send a message via chat, call us at a time convenient to you, or we’ll get in touch with you instead. To ensure we address your concern, our representatives are available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Saturdays, PST. Once done, we’ll let you know when your tax payments and form filings are due. You'll see reminders in your payroll to-do list. When you're ready to pay or file your payroll taxes, see the steps in the Pay and file payroll taxes online article.

I'd like to know how you get on after trying the steps, as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Just reply to this post and I'll get back to you. Take care always.
YES!!! #$^%&!#$ I am furious. This is the second time I have lost an entire year of transactions. In 2021 I had stayed on top of keeping my transactions categorized to make tax time easier. I Had an issue back in 2019 where my PNC account disconnected and stopped loading transactions so I wanted to keep on top of it to avoid problems come tax time. When I logged in this week to transfer all the information that I had worked on all year long to TurboTax, my 2021 transaction was gone and once again my PNC account was unlinked! Same as 2019 I downloaded all of my CSV files month by month from my bank and uploaded them to QB. Once again I have to categorize an entire years worth of transactions. On top of that some how my uploaded transactions duplicated. QuickBooks has now made Tax time extremely difficult, frustrating, and a PITA. I will be cancelling and asking for my money back. This is ridiculous....
